About The Position

The Meat Clerk works in Sprouts Farmers Market’s Meat Department, providing friendly, prompt customer service and maintaining product knowledge and safe food-handling practices. This hands-on role includes receiving, storing, grinding, and preparing meats; unloading and transporting meat and poultry deliveries; checking incoming items against invoices; and rotating stored meats to prevent aging. The clerk assists customers with questions, special orders, and product locations, and follows the department’s “Clean as You Go” and “Fresh at 4” programs, along with all department procedures. The role is performed in a fast-paced retail environment and requires a flexible schedule that may include nights, weekends, and holidays. Physical duties include standing for extended periods, walking, lifting and carrying products, moving racks and tables, and using a pallet jack. Employees work in temperature-controlled areas and clean and sanitize department work areas and equipment.

Requirements

Be at least 18 years of age.
Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
Have basic knowledge of math, weights, and measures.
Be dependable and reliable.
Demonstrate outgoing, friendly behavior, a positive attitude, and the ability to interact with customers.
Be able to work a flexible schedule that changes with business needs, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Have good communication skills and the ability to take direction and work as part of a team.
Be capable of standing continuously for up to 4 hours and for a total of 8 hours per shift, and walking up to 2 miles per 8 hours.
Be able to work inside a temperature-controlled area.
Have good vision for using sharp knives, a band saw, grinder, sausage maker, box cutter, wrapping machine, and tenderizer.
Be able to lift and carry products weighing 25 to 90 pounds between heights of 4 and 60 inches, for distances up to 10 feet, for 20 hours.
Be able to use a pallet jack to move pallets weighing up to 500 pounds horizontally, requiring up to 85 pounds of force, for distances up to 100 feet, for up to 5 hours.
Be able to move racks of products weighing up to 70 pounds horizontally, requiring up to 25 pounds of force, for distances up to 50 feet, for up to 10 hours.
Be able to move tables weighing up to 70 pounds, requiring more than 35 pounds of force, for distances up to 2 feet, for up to 1 hour.

Responsibilities

Provide prompt, friendly customer service and assist customers with questions, special orders, and other needs.
Maintain product knowledge, including weekly ad items, and direct customers to products throughout the store.
Receive, store, grind, and prepare meats; unload and transport fresh, cured, and boxed meats and poultry from delivery trucks.
Count and weigh incoming items and compare results against invoices.
Examine stored meats and rotate products to avoid aging.
Follow safe food-handling procedures and department procedural guidelines, including the “Clean as You Go” and “Fresh at 4” programs.
Perform general housekeeping and clean and sanitize department work areas, including tables, floors, walls, cases, coolers, and freezers.
Follow safety, health, weights and measures regulations, and company recipes.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
