About The Position

The Meat Clerk works in the Meat Department at Sprouts Farmers Market, providing friendly, prompt customer service and maintaining strong product knowledge and safe food-handling practices. The position involves receiving, storing, grinding, preparing, and rotating meats, as well as unloading and transporting fresh, cured, and boxed meats and poultry. The clerk counts and weighs deliveries, compares them against invoices, and examines stored meats to prevent aging. The role also involves helping customers with questions, special orders, and other needs; sharing information about weekly ad items; and directing customers to products throughout the store. The clerk follows the department’s procedural guidelines and the “Clean as You Go” and “Fresh at 4” programs, and helps keep the department clean and sanitary. It is a hands-on role in a fast-paced, customer-focused grocery environment.

Requirements

At least 18 years of age.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Basic knowledge of math, weights, and measures.
Dependable and reliable.
Outgoing, friendly behavior, a positive attitude, and the ability to interact with customers.
Ability to work a flexible schedule that changes with business needs, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Good communication skills and the ability to take direction and participate in a team environment.
Ability to stand continuously for up to 4 hours and up to 8 hours per shift, and walk up to 2 miles per 8 hours.
Ability to work inside a temperature-controlled area.
Good vision for using sharp knives, a band saw, grinder, sausage maker, box cutter, wrapping machine, and tenderizer.
Ability to lift and carry products weighing 25 to 90 pounds between heights of 4 and 60 inches, for distances up to 10 feet, for up to 20 hours.
Ability to use a pallet jack to move pallets weighing up to 500 pounds horizontally, requiring up to 85 pounds of force, for up to 100 feet and up to 5 hours.
Ability to move product racks weighing up to 70 pounds horizontally, requiring up to 25 pounds of force, for up to 50 feet and up to 10 hours.
Ability to move tables weighing up to 70 pounds, requiring more than 35 pounds of force, for up to 2 feet and up to 1 hour.

Responsibilities

Provide prompt, friendly customer service and assist customers with questions, special orders, and other needs.
Receive, store, grind, and prepare meats; unload and transport fresh, cured, and boxed meats and poultry from delivery trucks.
Count and weigh incoming products and compare the results against invoices.
Examine meats in storage and rotate them to avoid aging.
Maintain product knowledge, including knowledge of weekly ad items, and direct customers to products throughout the store.
Follow safe food-handling practices and all Meat Department procedural guidelines, company recipes, and applicable safety, health, weights, and measures regulations.
Follow the “Clean as You Go” and “Fresh at 4” programs.
Perform general housekeeping and clean and sanitize the department work area, including tables, floors, walls, cases, coolers, and freezers.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Work collaboratively, take direction, and help maintain a positive, customer-focused environment.
