About The Position

The Meat Clerk works in the Meat Department at Sprouts Farmers Market, providing friendly, prompt customer service and maintaining product knowledge and safe food-handling practices. The role involves receiving, storing, grinding, inspecting, rotating, weighing, and preparing meats, as well as unloading and transporting meat and poultry deliveries. The clerk assists customers with questions, product locations, special orders, and other needs, while following departmental procedures and programs such as “Clean as You Go” and “Fresh at 4.” The position is hands-on and fast-paced, with responsibilities for department housekeeping, cleaning and sanitizing work areas, and adhering to applicable safety, health, weights and measures regulations and company recipes.

The role requires a flexible schedule that may include nights, weekends, and holidays. Employees work in a temperature-controlled area and use equipment including sharp knives, a band saw, grinder, sausage maker, box cutter, wrapping machine, tenderizer, and pallet jack. The pay range is $18.70–$25.25 per hour, determined according to applicable experience and qualifications.

Requirements

• Be at least 18 years of age.
• Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Have basic knowledge of math, weights, and measures.
• Be dependable and reliable.
• Demonstrate outgoing, friendly behavior, a positive attitude, and the ability to interact with customers.
• Have good communication skills and the ability to take direction and participate in a team environment.
• Be able to work a flexible schedule that changes with business needs, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Be capable of standing continuously for up to 4 hours and a total of 8 hours per shift, and walking up to 2 miles per 8 hours.
• Be able to work inside a temperature-controlled area.
• Have good vision for using sharp knives and department equipment.
• Be able to lift and carry products weighing 25 to 90 lbs. horizontally or vertically between heights of 4 and 60 inches, up to 10 feet, for 20 hours.
• Be able to use a pallet jack to move pallets weighing up to 500 lbs. horizontally, requiring up to 85 lbs. of force, up to 100 feet, for up to 5 hours.
• Be able to move racks of products weighing up to 70 lbs., requiring up to 25 lbs. of force, up to 50 feet, for up to 10 hours.
• Be able to move tables weighing up to 70 lbs., requiring more than 35 lbs. of force, up to 2 feet, for up to 1 hour.

Responsibilities

• Provide prompt, friendly, high-level customer service and maintain a positive, customer-focused work environment.
• Assist customers with questions, special orders, other needs, product knowledge, and directions to products throughout the store.
• Receive, store, grind, and prepare meats.
• Unload and transport fresh, cured, and boxed meats and poultry from delivery trucks.
• Count and weigh incoming items and compare results against invoices.
• Examine meats in storage and rotate them to avoid aging.
• Maintain knowledge of weekly ad items.
• Follow the “Clean as You Go” and “Fresh at 4” Programs and all Meat Department procedural guidelines.
• Perform general housekeeping and clean and sanitize department work areas, including tables, floors, walls, cases, coolers, and freezers.
• Adhere to safety, health, weights and measures regulations, and company recipes.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
