About The Position

The Meat Journeyman Cutter assists customers, prepares and cuts meat, maintains quality in the fresh meat case, supports department cleanliness, and assists with receiving product. The role works within company programs, policies, and procedures. No supervisory responsibilities are assigned. Position requirements may vary by store location, and Niemann Foods Management may add to or change them at any time.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED, one to three months of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence and speak effectively before groups of customers or associates.
• Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, weights, and measures.
• Food Handlers Certificate provided at store level.
• Meat-cutting skills; communication, leadership, problem-solving, and adaptability skills; ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced environment; self-motivation; and a desire to advance within the department.
• Product-, customer-, personnel-, detail-, and sales-minded; stable, open-minded, and friendly.

Responsibilities

• Read cutting lists.
• Maintain meat cases.
• Cut all primals using specified techniques.
• Grind meats.
• Fill cases and stock meat.
• Rotate product properly.
• Assist the Meat Manager with inventory.
• Operate wrapping scales and other machinery in the Meat Department.
• Receive and process meat shipments correctly.
• Assist customers with requests and information.
• Clean and sanitize equipment, cases, work areas, and the sales floor.
• Work within company programs, policies, and procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
