About The Position

This vacancy is with the Department of Agriculture & Biosecurity. This recruitment is being conducted under the Operation Hire Hawaii (OH-HI) project, a targeted outreach initiative featuring an expedited hiring process, fast-tracking qualified applicants into job opportunities throughout Hawai’i. The Measurement Standards Inspectors enforce the State's measurement standards program to assure that equity prevails in all commercial transactions involving determinations of quantity, to detect fraud and misrepresentation, to discourage unfair competition, and to promote consumer confidence in the marketplace. Performance of work involves the application of laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures and guidelines pertaining to weights and measures, packaging and labeling, and petroleum products. The Measurement Standards Inspector II is the advanced trainee level in the series. Positions in this class continue to receive formal and on-the-job training designed to provide increased understanding of the State's measurement standards program and specifications, tolerances and other technical requirements for commercial measurement devices, with emphasis on thermal expansion and liquid measuring devices. Training continues to include formal instruction, laboratory application, and field experience in assisting higher level personnel.

Requirements

Legal Authorization to Work: The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
Graduation from high school with coursework in basic algebra and English or One year of work experience which demonstrated the ability to read, comprehend and apply technical material of average difficulty; express oneself orally in a clear and direct manner; perform mathematical processes including ratios, percentages and solving equations; and prepare written reports of activities.
One (1) year of technical work experience in the inspection and testing of weighing and measuring devices, and examination of packages for conformance with measurement standards, specifications, tolerances or other requirements requiring knowledge of governing laws, rules and regulations, inspectional procedures and methods of testing and calibrating weighing and measuring devices.
At least one year of the experience must have been comparable in difficulty, scope and depth to the work experience of a Measurement Standards Inspector II in State service.
Relevant substitutions as described in the Minimum Qualification Requirements, will apply.
Applicants must possess a valid driver's license at the time of appointment.
Applicants must be able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted, and 75 pounds with assistance of another person and/or the use of equipment (e.g., hoisting equipment, hand truck, etc.) for heavier loads, with or without reasonable accommodation.
