MDS Coordinator (RN)
About The Position
The MDS Coordinator is a Registered Nurse responsible for completing resident assessments and supporting accurate federal billing and care planning in a long-term care setting. The role gathers information from medical records, bedside assessments, and interviews with staff, residents, and families. The position also contributes to interdisciplinary meetings and provides ongoing education about the RAI process. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and self-motivated, with knowledge of nursing and medical practices and the laws, regulations, and guidelines applicable to long-term care. No call rotation or weekend requirement is specified.
Requirements
- Registered Nurse with required current state licensure.
- At least three years of clinical experience in a healthcare setting.
- At least one year of MDS experience.
- Knowledge of nursing and medical practices and procedures, and laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to long-term care.
Nice To Haves
- Long-term care experience is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Collect information to complete the MDS using medical records, bedside assessments, and interviews with staff, residents, and/or families.
- Participate in daily PPS meetings, weekly Medicare meetings, and month-end meetings to help ensure federal billing requirements are met.
- Review the Plan of Care at least quarterly and with each Comprehensive Assessment, ensuring changes during the quarter are included and updated.
- Provide ongoing education about the RAI process to interdisciplinary team members, direct and indirect caregivers, and business office staff as appropriate and when changes occur.
