About The Position

The Medical Information, Technology and Innovation (MITI) group leads technological advancement and innovation for Vertex’s Medical Affairs teams. It enables internal capabilities and efficiency and supports effective interactions with healthcare professionals in support of Vertex medicines.

Vertex is seeking a strategic and innovative MBA Intern to support the transformation of Medical Affairs business processes. The intern will help design and implement systems, processes, and technologies—including AI-driven solutions—to improve quality, effectiveness, and efficiency and increase the impact of medical insights and scientific exchange in closing care gaps. The role combines operational expertise, digital and AI innovation, and change leadership.

The 9- to 10-week MBA internship is designed to provide hands-on experience in a challenging, fast-paced environment. Interns take leadership of business-critical projects, collaborate with industry leaders, gain exposure to Medical Affairs operations and AI applications, and present project results to senior management. The role includes exposure to Medical Affairs experts and partner functions in Boston and international markets.

Requirements

• Must be enrolled in an accredited two-year, full-time MBA program.
• Four to six years of work experience before starting the MBA program.
• Background or experience in business transformation through process improvement, including the introduction of technology such as AI.
• Experience summarizing data analysis and translating data insights into business impact.
• Strategic thinker with a hands-on approach to problem-solving and execution.
• Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and AI tools.
• Legal authorization to work in the United States now and in the future; Vertex does not provide sponsorship for internships or entry-level roles in this part of the organization.

• Experience in the pharmaceutical or health-sciences industries is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Optimize processes and workflows to promote consistency, compliance, and efficiency across geographies.
• Design and implement innovative solutions, including AI, automation, and digital platforms, to reduce manual workload or increase engagement and educational impact.
• Collaborate with Medical Affairs, IT, Legal, and Compliance to align strategy and execution.
• Develop and monitor KPIs to measure impact and support continuous performance improvement.
• Communicate and visualize analytical outputs in writing and verbally for business leaders and non-technical audiences.
• Manage and manipulate data, including capturing, validating, cleansing, transforming, and uploading data originating from company collaborations.
• Translate business needs and strategy into features or models.
• Create senior-leader-quality presentations on the application of data science to the project.
• Participate in discovery interviews, project status meetings, and project presentations with business partners and intern program leads.
• Present project findings and results to senior management.
