The Putnam Avenue Upper School is an innovative public middle school in the Cambridge Public Schools. We are looking for a dynamic, committed educator with solid content and pedagogical knowledge, solid classroom management skills, a deep commitment to social justice, and experience working in urban schools. We are actively working towards becoming an antiracist school and are taking steps towards identifying and dismantling racist structures, hearing and elevating underrepresented voices, and striving to achieve an equitable and just educational experience for all students. The upper school math teacher will be responsible for implementing differentiated, innovative instruction for a diverse group of students. The teacher should have an appreciation and awareness of the unique developmental needs of middle school students, as well as a conviction that all students can master complex math concepts. The teacher will work closely with the grade 6 teaching team, whole-school teams of faculty, including special educators, instructional coaches, and paraprofessional aides, and will collaborate with colleagues across the district. The teacher will incorporate a variety of assessment strategies, including district-wide exams and formative assessments, in order to inform and modify instruction as well as target interventions and enrichment needs. Preferred candidates will have experience in the use of technology to enhance and differentiate lessons. Additionally, the teacher will recognize the importance of integrating social learning into their math class and advisory. The teacher will partner with families to include them in students’ learning and development. As a professional, the teacher will be fully committed to continuous learning, improving, reflecting, and working together with colleagues to ensure that all students achieve at high levels.
