The University of North Carolina’s Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is recruiting a tenure track or variable track Maternal-Fetal Medicine Specialist with expertise in critical care obstetrics to provide inpatient and outpatient care to high-risk obstetric patients, including those requiring intensive care management. This is a unique opportunity to serve as the clinical and academic leader of Critical Care MFM at UNC, with responsibilities extending well beyond direct ICU service. The successful candidate will be expected to: (1) provide consultative and co-management critical care services for pregnant and postpartum patients; (2) lead the development and implementation of evidence-based critical care protocols for obstetric patients; (3) build and direct a joint MFM -Critical Care fellowship program in collaboration with relevant departments; and (4) develop and expand tele-critical care (e-ICU) capacity to extend critical care expertise to obstetric patients across UNC Health’s regional network. Additional responsibilities include education of medical students, residents, and fellows, and active participation in the division’s research mission. The division’s clinical programs include high-risk obstetric care, perinatal consultation, prenatal diagnosis, ultrasound, genetic services, invasive fetal therapy, and perinatal outreach. Division faculty members are engaged participants in the activities of UNC’s Collaborative for Maternal and Infant Health (www.mombaby.org), which provides multidisciplinary care coordination for families referred for fetal malformations. Division members actively participate in student and resident teaching and provide subspecialty training for six Maternal Fetal Medicine fellows through its 3-year American Board of Obstetrics & Gynecology (ABOG) approved fellowship program.
