About the position
Solid Power is seeking a Materials Engineer to join their team and contribute to the development of next-generation, all solid-state rechargeable batteries. The Materials Engineer will be responsible for assisting with critical material scaleup, process development, and characterization related to solid-state electrolytes. This role requires a Master's or Ph.D. Degree in chemistry or a related discipline, along with 2+ years of experience in the chemical industry. The successful candidate will work in a dynamic, fast-paced, collaborative team environment and will have the opportunity to participate in cross-functional teams to introduce process improvements and develop next-generation materials.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to experimental designs toward the discovery and characterization of next-generation electrolytes and electrode materials
- Conduct highly systematic DOEs toward critical path material development
- Conduct relevant characterization (e.g. structural and ionic transport) on electrolytes and electrode materials
- Participate with cross-functional teams to introduce and execute process improvements and/or equipment upgrades to improve functionality and manufacturability
- Maintain thorough and accurate records of all conducted experimentation
- Lead subprojects to yield critical results for on-going research efforts
- Participate with cross-functional teams to develop next-generation materials and transfer developed materials and processes to the pilot scale
- Clean and organize common equipment and lab areas as needed
- Conform to all safety precautions and protocols
- Document and follow standard operating procedures for Solid Power’s production equipment as well as assist in drafting or editing procedures during process development.
Requirements
- Master's or Ph.D. Degree in chemistry or a related discipline (e.g. Materials Science)
- 2+ years' experience in the chemical industry desirable
- Knowledge of structural and/or synthetic chemistry
