The Materials Coordinator performs accurate PeopleSoft on-line purchase requests while striving to adhere to the departmental budget. This role works to control operating room costs and maintain optimum inventory levels. The coordinator ensures service specific, OR par-stock and generic supplies are properly maintained in designated locations for distribution throughout all sites in the Operating Room. They rotate all inventory, eliminate expired and unused supplies, and utilize inventory skills to improve inventory turns. The position also involves conducting monthly inventory cycle counts and ensuring the inventory database is up to date and accurate. The Materials Coordinator works with vendors/distributors to return low usage, obsolete and/or overstocked supplies for exchange or credit, and helps to resolve manufacturer recalls as quickly as possible to promote patient safety. They investigate and resolve problems associated with orders such as backorders, errors, miscommunication, lost shipments, and price/invoice discrepancies. The role also includes maintaining clean and orderly work areas, organizing and maintaining par stock locations within Surgical Services, and following Joint Commission standards and Fire Marshall Requirements. The Materials Coordinator works as a team with co-workers, demonstrates and supports Lifewings and ICARE principles, and serves as a teacher and mentor to others. Additional duties may require transport of other material throughout the facility including mail and linen.
