About The Position

A Material Handling Operator handles, moves, and stores hazardous and non-hazardous materials within Ventower’s property. The role includes operating forklifts and other motor vehicles, receiving and organizing materials, maintaining inventory records, and preparing shipping documentation. It also involves handling hazardous waste materials, including paint waste, and ensuring hazardous-waste manifests are correctly identified and documented.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent qualification.
At least 2 years of experience in a similar role.
Two years of experience operating heavy forklifts.
Understanding of balance and leverage concepts needed to safely load and unload heavy materials.
Ability to use and maintain appropriate tools and equipment.
Ability to lift up to 100 pounds; ability to lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds is also specified.
Ability to work inside and outside in cold, damp, drafty, and hot areas.
Ability to work on hard surfaces and to stand, stoop, bend, and work in tiring or uncomfortable positions.
Ability to exert moderate physical effort using hand and foot controls while operating a forklift, including driving, turning, starting, stopping, and raising, lowering, and tilting loads.
Must provide own steel-toed shoes.
Ability to complete training for Michigan state forklift certification.
Must pass a background check and drug test as conditions of employment.
Legally authorized to work in the United States.
Availability to work overtime, including weekends, public holidays, and evenings.

Nice To Haves

OSHA forklift certification is an advantage.

Responsibilities

Operate large forklifts to safely unload and move steel plates and similar materials weighing 20,000–40,000 pounds.
Operate small forklifts, trucks, and other motor vehicles to retrieve miscellaneous consumable items.
Organize mixed materials by type.
Perform regular vehicle maintenance and inspections in accordance with established rules and regulations.
Verify received inventory by type and quantity, and report discrepancies or problems to a supervisor.
Prepare shipping documents and related reports.
Enter inventory information, vehicle maintenance requirements, and other information into the computer system.
Load and unload hazardous waste materials, including paint waste.
Identify hazardous waste and ensure the correct documentation is provided on hazardous-waste manifests.
Perform other duties as assigned.
