About The Position

The Material Handling Laborer will support a federal records program in Perris, California. The position supports the agency’s mission of safeguarding and providing access to essential Federal Government records through the accurate storage, retrieval, movement, disposition, and handling of records and records containers. The warehouse maintains important federal records, including personnel, tax, passport, and other government records, making accuracy, confidentiality, accountability, and careful records handling essential to successful performance.

Requirements

  • Be at least 18 years of age and legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Be able to successfully complete the background investigation/suitability process necessary to obtain and maintain access to a NARA Federal facility.
  • Be able to report reliably to the facility in Perris, California, for scheduled on-site shifts.
  • Be able to understand and consistently follow written and verbal instructions, records-control procedures, safety requirements, and work assignments.
  • Demonstrate sufficient English-language reading, basic writing, and basic numerical skills to accurately interpret container numbers, shelf locations, labels, pull lists, reports, and related records documentation.
  • Be able to maintain the confidentiality and security of sensitive Government records and information.
  • Regularly lift, carry, move, and position records boxes weighing 30–50 pounds, including carrying boxes for distances of up to one-quarter mile within the facility.
  • Safely climb and balance on ladders while retrieving or shelving records boxes weighing 30–50 pounds from shelving up to 15 feet high.
  • Safely work on caster-equipped ladders and catwalks while handling records containers stored up to 15 feet above floor level.
  • Frequently walk, stand, stoop, bend, squat, reach, lift, and carry throughout the workday, including working for extended periods on one’s feet.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a combination of records-center, warehouse, materials-handling, retrieval, disposition, and related support activities.
  • Locate, retrieve, remove, transport, and reshelve Federal records containers in accordance with work instructions, location information, pull lists, and other records-control documentation.
  • Safely remove records boxes from shelving and transport containers using streamliners, carts, pallets, and other Government-provided material-handling equipment as applicable.
  • Receive and shelve incoming records transfers, verifying records and container locations against Records Put Away Reports and other documentation.
  • Prepare records for disposition by pulling designated containers, transporting them to review/staging areas, palletizing containers, and securely shrink-wrapping pallets.
  • Maintain containers in the required sequence and verify identifying information, labels, transfer numbers, and shelf locations to support records accountability.
  • Retrieve requested folders, files, boxes, and other records in response to reference-service requests and return or reshelve records accurately after processing.
  • Identify and report missing containers, charged-out records, empty shelf locations, discrepancies, damaged containers, or other records-control issues to the appropriate Team Lead or designated federal personnel.
  • Complete required logs, pull lists, worksheets, Records Put Away Reports, and related documentation accurately and legibly.
  • Perform palletizing, staging, shrink-wrapping, shelving, relocation, and general warehouse/material-handling duties while protecting records from loss or damage.
  • Meet established production and quality standards while maintaining a high degree of accuracy.
  • Protect sensitive Federal records and information, including Personally Identifiable Information (PII), Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI), and other protected information encountered during contract performance.
  • Follow all NARA safety, security, records-handling, confidentiality, workplace conduct, and LAC Federal policies and procedures.
