About The Position

Metals USA has an immediate opening for a Material Handler at its Waggaman, Louisiana facility. The role handles the storage and movement of inventory and equipment, supports production by keeping machine operation centers supplied, and assists with loading and unloading materials. The employee works primarily in an open warehouse and must follow safety procedures, maintain orderly work areas, and attend work regularly and predictably.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum age of 18.
• Basic arithmetic skills to calculate and convert decimals and fractions.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficient measuring skills and ability to read measuring tapes, micrometers, and calipers.
• Ability to stand for long periods.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, documents, and blueprints.
• Detail oriented, with the ability to inspect material for quality.
• Ability to perform the listed physical activities and lift up to 40 pounds, with or without lifting devices.
• Must pass a pre-employment drug screen.
• Regular and predictable attendance is required.

Nice To Haves

• Overhead crane or forklift experience.
• Valid OSHA Forklift Certification.
• Valid Overhead Crane Certification.

Responsibilities

• Receive items and place or return them to stock inventory locations.
• Tag materials for proper identification.
• Pull and assemble customer orders in delivery order.
• Operate a yard truck to load and unload trailers.
• Operate cranes to load and unload trailers.
• Operate 5,000- or 10,000-pound forklifts to load and unload trailers.
• Secure loaded material onto trucks and load or unload materials as needed.
• Complete and document production and quality paperwork and follow shop system data collection procedures.
• Perform tasks including grinding and using an oxy-fuel torch.
• Maintain clean, orderly, and safe work areas, returning tools and equipment to designated areas.
• Ensure machine operation centers are timely supplied with material for production.
• Notify management of product discrepancies, equipment malfunctions, and personal injuries.
• Restock material.
