About The Position

The Material Handler is responsible for safely handling and staging material for production at the paint line. The Material Handler is also responsible for preparing necessary materials for packaging of finished coils. In addition to those primary functions, the Material Handler ensures that finished coils are properly identified with a coil identification ticket and are stored properly in a designated location.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, or experience
  • The ability to read and comprehend documents including safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and simple correspondence.
  • Also, the ability to communicate information in small group situations to other employees.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as fractions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • The ability to apply common sense understanding to perform work instructions that are furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
  • The ability to solve problems which, involve multiple variables in a standard situation.
  • Incumbent is required to drive a forklift operate an overhead crane and use various power tools.
  • The incumbent must be trained and capable of assuming the position of payoff operator when necessary.
  • The incumbent should also be capable of recognizing metal defects.
  • The employee will be required to be capable of lifting a minimum weight of 75 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities include close-up and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

Nice To Haves

  • 6+ months forklift experience desired
  • 12 months overhead crane experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for preparing materials to be used for packaging and shipping of finished coils.
  • Responsible for packaging finished coils in a safe manner and moving those coils to a designated location for finished goods.
  • Responsible for verifying that finished goods (coils) are properly identified with an identification ticket prior to moving them to a storage area.
  • Responsible for verifying that finished goods (coils) are not damaged or visibly non-conforming prior to moving them to a designated storage area.
  • Responsible for quarantining non-conforming material (using the HFI process) and notifying Quality Control when non-conforming conditions exist.
  • Responsible for understanding and complying with the fundamental principles associated with the Quality and Environmental Management System in place.
  • Communicates daily with internal personnel from Maintenance, Operations and Quality Control in order to help resolve any problems and help achieve company goals.
