About The Position

The Material Handler is responsible for selecting and inspecting appropriate shipping containers, transferring finished products, and ensuring proper weight, sealing, and labeling. This role involves cleaning equipment to comply with GMP requirements, checking equipment functionality, and maintaining accurate records of cleaning, inventory, and labeling. The Material Handler operates powered industrial equipment safely and efficiently, adhering to various quality, safety, and regulatory guidelines such as GMP, HACCP, allergen control, safety, ISO 9001:2015, EFfCI, and SQF. They also assist the compounding supervisor by staging materials, replenishing stock, and monitoring batch mixing. This position serves as a backup for equipment cleaning and requires cross-training for operational needs. Attendance at annual refresher food safety training and on-site competency testing is mandatory. The role is responsible for maintaining SQF, ISO 9001:2015, and EFfCI requirements, and performing other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and convert weights and volumes between English and metric units.
  • Ability to convert English units of weight and volume to metric units of weight and volume.
  • Ability to read and comprehend safety labels, manufacturing instructions, safety data sheets, digital scale readouts, correspondence, labels, code numbers.
  • Ability to follow verbal instructions.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables.
  • High school diploma or general education degree.
  • Ability to read and understand instructions in English.
  • Knowledge of the metric system is required.
  • Forklift certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Select/inspect appropriate shipping container, per written instruction or regulations, and transfer the designated finished product to the correct weight and seal and label the container.
  • Clean equipment, pumps and utensils per relevant SSOP’s to ensure compliance with GMP requirements.
  • Check to make sure all filters, pumps, and related equipment are operating properly, leak-free and sanitary before use.
  • Maintain proper records of cleaning, inventory of container use and a labels and screening date after each product is packaged.
  • Operate powered industrial equipment—including forklifts, pallet jacks, reach walkie stackers, and other material‑handling equipment—in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Perform tasks in accordance with proper GMP, HACCP, allergen, safety, ISO 9001:2015, EFfCI and SQF guidelines (as applicable).
  • Work with compounding supervisor/compounder to stage materials for upcoming batches.
  • Rotate warehouse stock as needed, replenish compounding areas stock drums and fill transfer containers as needed.
  • Monitor and ensure proper mixing of compounded batches, sample to QC with proper paperwork.
  • Serve as a backup to the equipment cleaner and is cross-trained to perform required duties as operational needs arise.
  • Attend annual refresher food safety training.
  • Complete on site annual competency testing.
  • Maintain the SQF, ISO 9001:2015 and EFfCI requirements.
  • Adhere to Bell’s safety policies, including the use of required, company-supplied PPE (ex, lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, toe cap safety shoes, respirators, etc.), hazard communication, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
  • Participate in safety training, audits, and emergency preparedness drills.
  • Act in a safe manner, inclusive of compliance with all OSHA standards.
  • Maintain a safe and organized work environment; report and/or address unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Support ongoing compliance with FDA, USDA, EPA, DOT, Organic, HACCP, DEA, FSMA, and all other local, state, and Federal regulations.
  • Support ongoing compliance with SQF, Kosher, Halal, and all other relevant food production rules and requirements.
  • Uphold Food Defense and Food Safety processes and procedures.
  • Support Bell’s Quality Systems Policy, including document control, product traceability, crisis management, allergen management, and ongoing training.
