About The Position

Responsible for the safe, efficient, and quality-conscious transport of bulk scrap commodities to or from barges, railcars, trucks, and storage facilities. The role ensures work consistently meets or exceeds supervisor expectations and published policies and procedures. Operators drive construction trucks of various sizes, up to approximately 100 tons, to transport scrap and finished materials among marine docks, storage yards, receiving bins, and other locations. Duties include inspecting, maintaining, fueling, and lubricating vehicles; following safe operating procedures; responding to customer requests; and completing other assigned duties.

Requirements

• A valid driver's license must be maintained, along with thorough knowledge of traffic laws and defensive driving.
• Ability to operate and maintain equipment safely at all times.
• Ability to take direction and supervision and work cooperatively with others.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to work in a sitting position, such as in a vehicle cab, for extended periods.
• Ability to work in all types of weather conditions.
• Must be available to work all shifts and weekends.

Nice To Haves

• High school graduation certificate or equivalent is desired but not required.
• Previous experience operating heavy equipment is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Operate construction trucks of various sizes, up to approximately 100 tons, to transport scrap and finished materials between marine docks, storage yards, receiving bins, and other locations.
• Understand and comply with policies, procedures, and guidelines for safe vehicle operation.
• Inspect the vehicle before operation and note any problems requiring maintenance.
• Perform approved vehicle maintenance as needed.
• Fuel and lubricate the vehicle as required.
• Follow proper procedures for loading, traveling, and dumping loads.
• Follow proper procedures for vehicle startup, shutdown, and lockout.
• Ensure the vehicle is clean and in working order at the end of the shift.
• Promptly respond to customer requests for service, materials, and support.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
