About The Position

The Material Analyst is responsible for material planning for multiple production builds and ensuring assigned parts are delivered on time to the correct locations. The role supports quick product changeovers, supplier relationship management, and analysis to maintain optimal inventory levels and address exceptions. It involves detailed requirements analysis, gathering data from multiple sources, assessing risks, and establishing mitigation plans. The analyst is expected to understand Rivian’s supply chain, production processes, warehouse operations, and effects on other teams. This position is based onsite in Normal, Illinois, and reports to the Manager of Material Planning.

Requirements

A Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or a related field is highly preferred, or at least 3 years of applicable experience.
Working knowledge of Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Ability to set tasks and responsibilities.

Ability to meet deadlines and stay within budget.
Strong team orientation and cross-functional attitude.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as governmental regulations, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Ability to solve practical problems and handle varied situations with limited standardization.
Ability to interpret written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule-based instructions.

Nice To Haves

Experience with Material Requirements Planning (MRP) software such as SAP.
Experience understanding MRP logic and creating demand plans.
Previous material planning or warehouse planning experience.

Responsibilities

Build and maintain strong supplier relationships.
Collaborate with assigned suppliers to ensure timely delivery of parts.
Forecast supply requirements through the Material Requirements Planning (MRP) process.
Manage safety stock to maintain optimal on-hand inventory levels.
Ensure day-to-day replenishment and supply continuity for all programs.
Serve as the primary point of contact for plant or warehouse escalations.
Manage backlog recovery through clear communication with the supply base.
Analyze inventory runout on short notice and communicate findings clearly internally and externally.
Perform risk analysis and implement countermeasures.
Document root causes and corrective actions.
Attend meetings, create reports, and present for the assigned area, shop, or suppliers.
Interface with the Logistics department and logistics providers.
Support engineering changes, timing, and supply availability.
Determine bank build quantities for tooling moves, resourcing, and constrained supply situations.
Work cross-functionally with other departments to establish processes and procedures.
Develop and maintain department procedures and other written documentation.
Monitor supplier performance, conformance, and production schedules.
Identify opportunities for supplier improvement plans and countermeasures.
Cross-train and support plans to cover peers’ planned and unplanned absences.
Visit customer locations and plants during major milestone events when required.
