About The Position

The primary role of the Master Mechanic is the direct supervision and performance of underground and surface mechanical personnel to ensure quality maintenance, preventative maintenance, diagnosis, disassembly, inspections, rebuilds, and reassembly to diesel, electrical, hydraulic and air operated components and equipment such as engines, power trains, hydraulics, fuel systems, power generation, electrical codes, etc. all related to mining equipment such as Jumbo drills, haul trucks, bolters, loaders, dozers, etc.

Requirements

  • Documented maintenance experience of 10 years.
  • Concentration in heavy equipment maintenance of mining equipment, including, but not limited to, Haul Trucks, Dozers, Jumbo Drill, Motor Graders, Front End Loaders, etc.
  • Requires minimum 5 years experience in underground mining.
  • Full working knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
  • Must have excellent organization and time management skills.
  • Strong leadership, managerial, training and communication skills required.
  • If required to operate a company vehicle during the course of employment, must meet the requirements to be an eligible user of company vehicles. Must possess a current State Driver’s License and acceptable driving record.
  • Proficient in the use of computers and associated software.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to read and understand materials commonly used in the product service and maintenance function (service and parts manuals, technical bulletins, and other related articles).
  • Extensive technical/mechanical knowledge of heavy equipment as related to mining.
  • Extensive experience with interfacing with multiple functions and roles and at all levels within the organization.
  • Extensive experience with project management and organizational skills including time management, leadership, and decision-making abilities.
  • Capable of reading & understanding equipment electrical drawings and schematics.
  • Must be proficient using maintenance related software and programs.
  • Must be capable of reading and interpreting diagnostic instruments and testers.
  • Ability to use and understand Engine/Powertrain Diagnostic Software, both handheld and computer based.
  • Strong knowledge in braking systems, steering systems, suspension systems, payload systems, compressed air systems, engine tune-up requirements, electronic engine controls, drive trains and electric drive haul truck braking/dynamic systems.
  • Must have a working knowledge of all tools and equipment necessary to work in the Maintenance Department
  • Capable of reading and disseminating information from schematics and maintenance manuals.
  • Experience with OEM maintenance repair manuals and schematics.
  • Knowledge of applicable legislation and regulations pertaining to equipment.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and customer service skills, both verbal and written.
  • High level of attention to detail, neatness and accuracy.
  • Ability to pass background clearance check, drug screening and physical.
  • Must have a mechanics basic set of hand tools up to a two-inch minimum.
  • Ability to understand, provide, and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to prepare written reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision.

Nice To Haves

  • Recognized trade certificate, in the maintenance or repair field preferred.
  • Preferred 5 years management, supervisory and training experience.

Responsibilities

  • Manages preventative maintenance, general/major maintenance and repairs, diagnostics, inspection, disassembly/assembly, etc. and that work is conducted according to regulatory, safety and company specifications.
  • Performs advanced maintenance, technical and diagnostic tasks.
  • Assigns, schedules, and supervises work assignments. Ensure all planned maintenance is carried out per the maintenance schedule.
  • Responsible for the hiring, evaluation, commendation, mentoring, training, disciplinary action, and dismissals regarding supervised staff.
  • Ensure that workers are qualified and capable of safely performing assigned work.
  • Communicates with cross-shifts and departments to ensure continuity of assignments by maintaining and reading logs, meeting with peers, and coordinating work.
  • Inspects completed work to ensure it meets quality/safety standards.
  • Ensures safe and timely emergency repairs to equipment and redirects crew activities in response to unforeseen or unplanned developments.
  • Supports and communicates with project management team.
  • Ensures compliance with all Redpath USA Corporation and Owners safety regulations and procedures.
  • Validates all personnel can safely operate and move various mine equipment for servicing, maintenance, inspection, testing, etc.
  • Understand confined space, fall protection, equipment isolation, and basic welding standards and procedures.
  • Maintains mechanical parts and supplies inventories at optimal levels (factoring in both cost and risk of downtime).
  • Ensure that all the spares and tools are available and serviceable.
  • Responsible to keep work areas safe and free of hazards. Performs Field Level Risk Assessments.
  • Must be able to follow proper procedures to ensure safety and to control equipment damage.
  • Must be able to comprehend and provide written and verbal instructions as required to perform his duties in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Delivers and ensures compliance with daily, weekly and monthly safety directives, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality with respect to Redpath and client information.
  • Complies with and ensure compliance with Redpath’s Policies and Procedures as detailed in the appropriate manuals, handbooks, directives, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
  • Able to work in excess of 40 hours a week, overtime, day and nights, weekends, holidays and shift rotations.
  • Compliance with Redpath Core Competencies is an essential duty and responsibility.
