Marketing Technology Strategist

Phase2
$132,000 - $155,000Remote

About The Position

You will architect and build the data systems that power our clients’ most important growth initiatives. You are first and foremost a builder, and you bring the credibility to lead technical conversations with clients directly. This role is built for someone who has spent their career as a hands-on data engineer and is ready to grow into a strategy-focused, client-facing position. As a Marketing Technology Strategist on Phase2’s Strategy team, you design and build the cloud warehouses, pipelines, CDP implementations, and platform integrations that connect raw data to real business outcomes: acquisition, lifecycle marketing, attribution, and audience activation. You’re hands-on with the architecture and the code, and you’re comfortable presenting technical strategy directly to client stakeholders and defending architecture decisions. You understand how data quality, structure, and observability shape the analytics and AI outcomes clients rely on, and you bring that perspective to every engagement.

Requirements

  • Experience: 6+ years of hands-on data engineering experience in production environments, with a clear interest in growing from a builder role into strategy and client consulting, and 2+ years in an agency or consulting context working directly with clients.
  • Core technical skills: Strong proficiency in Python and SQL, with demonstrated experience building and operating production-grade pipelines and data models.
  • Cloud data and modeling experience: Hands-on experience with cloud data warehouses (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift), dbt or similar transformation tooling, data modeling, and tag management.
  • Pipeline and event systems experience: Proven experience with CDPs (e.g., Segment, mParticle) or event collection systems, orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow, Dagster), and building and operating production data pipelines.
  • MarTech and platform integrations: Experience integrating CRM, marketing automation, and messaging platforms (e.g., HubSpot, Salesforce, Iterable, Braze) with warehouse and CDP data.
  • Activation and measurement knowledge: Hands-on experience with Reverse ETL (e.g., Census, Hightouch), web analytics, attribution, and marketing measurement.
  • AI and coding assistant fluency: Active daily use of coding assistants (e.g., Claude Code, Copilot, Codex) and comfort building with AI tools, agents, and automations as part of everyday delivery.
  • Client communication: Comfort presenting technical architecture and decisions directly to client stakeholders, with prior agency or consulting experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Data architecture and modeling: Design data models, schemas, and identity strategies that connect raw data to clear business and marketing outcomes.
  • Pipelines and transformation: Build and maintain ETL and ELT pipelines and transformations into cloud warehouses using modern patterns and tooling.
  • Platform integrations: Integrate warehouses, CDPs, CRM and marketing systems, messaging platforms, analytics tools, and media data sources.
  • Activation and Reverse ETL: Configure audience, scoring, and lifecycle signal flows from warehouses into operational tools using Reverse ETL and activation patterns.
  • Attribution and measurement: Build attribution structures, UTM frameworks, and campaign tracking that give a trusted view of performance.
  • Data for AI and automation: Shape and prepare data for AI-powered use cases such as agents, automations, analytics assistants, and RAG-style workflows.
  • Quality, reliability, and enablement: Test, monitor, document, and improve data systems so they are reliable, scalable, and easy for clients to operate. Proactively identify and address technical debt.
  • Client collaboration: Work directly with client stakeholders to present the architecture, align on requirements, and clearly communicate technical decisions.
  • Practice development: Contribute reusable patterns and frameworks that strengthen Phase2’s data engineering practice.
