Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in SEO or organic growth, including ownership of a program and delivery of measurable results; demonstrated accomplishments are weighted more heavily than tenure.
  • Hands-on AEO experimentation experience and ability to explain tests, measurement, and learnings.
  • Technical SEO knowledge sufficient to diagnose problems, prioritize fixes, and work with engineers on implementation.
  • Strong editorial judgment, including the ability to write useful briefs, edit pages, and identify when content needs original expertise or research.
  • Regular use of AI tools and ability to build or adapt workflows with APIs, scripts, or automation platforms.
  • Ability to distinguish promising signals from results requiring further testing and explain both clearly.
  • Ability to translate complex technical ideas into clear recommendations connected to business impact.
  • Ownership from recommendation through execution, decision-making, cross-functional collaboration, and adaptability.

Responsibilities

  • Own the organic growth strategy and build and execute a roadmap for discovery, citations, and recommendations across AI answer engines and traditional search.
  • Prioritize the questions, topics, and sources most relevant to Profound’s market.
  • Use search demand, prompt data, citation decay, and competitive gaps to decide what content to create or update; collaborate with Content and subject matter experts to publish fresh, custom content frequently.
  • Partner with Web and Engineering to maintain technical SEO, including crawlability, indexing, rendering, site architecture, internal linking, and structured data; write implementation briefs and verify changes.
  • Identify publications, communities, and other sources influencing answers about the category, and work with PR, Partnerships, and Social to earn coverage and contribute expertise.
  • Run and document experiments in content formats, page structures, technical changes, and distribution approaches.
  • Use Profound’s AI Marketer to accelerate research, audits, monitoring, and reporting while retaining human review where accuracy and editorial judgment matter.
  • Understand buyer needs and how they relate to evaluation or purchase decisions.
  • Track search performance, AI mentions and citations, qualified traffic, conversions, and pipeline; communicate measurement limitations and incomplete attribution.
  • Share product feedback based on running Profound’s own program, and turn findings into examples, research, and customer playbooks.
  • Help define the Marketing Engineer role by sharing learnings, publishing experiment outcomes, developing a point of view on effective practices, and contributing to industry conversations.
