SILP -Summer Student as Marketing Coordinator

About The Position

MCRI is seeking a creative, motivated student to support our outreach, storytelling, and community engagement efforts over the summer. This role will play a key part in increasing awareness of Club Shades, SILP, and the impactful work of our Human Services Counselors. The student will help share real stories from our community, highlight programs and services, and support efforts to grow engagement, donations, and community investment in our upcoming Club Shades expansion. This is an excellent opportunity for a student interested in marketing, communications, social media, or community development, and who is passionate about making a meaningful impact. This position is for 8 weeks between June to August.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program (Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or related field)
  • Good knowledge of social media.
  • Strong written communication and storytelling skills
  • Comfortable using social media platforms for content creation
  • Creative, organized, and able to work independently
  • Interest in community work and social impact
  • Strong spoken and written English skills are essential.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently with excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work a variety of shifts including evenings and weekends.
  • Consistent work performance and attendance.
  • Excellent people skills.
  • Follow privacy, consent, and confidentiality guidelines.
  • Approach all storytelling with respect and sensitivity.
  • Be open to guidance on ethical and trauma-informed communication.

Nice To Haves

  • First-Aid and CPR certificate is an asset.
  • Clear SD check and criminal record check.
  • Basic graphic design or video editing skills are an asset (e.g., Canva, CapCut, etc.).
  • Valid driver’s license and use of a personal car daily. Ability/willingness to drive clients is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and schedule weekly social media content across platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram).
  • Capture and share stories that highlight members, staff, and programs.
  • Building brand awareness (Club Shades, SILP, MCRI)
  • Support awareness and engagement efforts for the Club Shades expansion project
  • Promote Food security initiatives, Social and recreational programming, Life skills development opportunities
  • Assist in creating basic promotional materials (graphics, short videos, captions)
  • Engage with the community online in a professional and positive manner
  • Collaborate with staff to ensure content reflects MCRI’s values and voice
  • Creating content strategy (weekly posts, storytelling)
  • Supporting fundraising and donor awareness
