About The Position

Reporting to a Clinical Manager, Clinical Services, the Recreation Assistant will support the delivery of inclusive summer programming through FIREFLY and Kenora Chiefs Advisory (KCA), aimed at promoting recreation, physical activity, and independence for children and youth, with a focus on children and youth of all abilities.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in high school or a post-secondary education program.
  • Experience working with children and youth in recreational or community settings.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Creativity, adaptability, and a willingness to learn.
  • Cultural sensitivity and the ability to work respectfully within diverse communities.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage a reasonable workload.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Must demonstrate the agency’s values and promote a positive, respectful work culture.
  • Conflict resolution, mediation, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Commitment to following and promoting all agency health and safety protocols.
  • Applicants must be minimum 15 years of age to meet funding requirements, enrolled in secondary or post-secondary and returning to school in the Fall.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting individuals with exceptional needs is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of Ojibwe, ASL, or other augmentative communication methods is an asset.
  • Valid Driver’s License an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning, promotion, and participant recruitment for summer Bike Camps.
  • Support the set-up, delivery, and clean-up of Bike Camps at multiple FIRELLY locations.
  • Work directly with children and youth (ages 6 and up), including those with exceptional needs, using adaptive strategies to promote independence and skill-building (e.g., learning to ride 2-wheeled or adaptive bikes).
  • Collaborate with KCA recreational staff to support the implementation of community-based summer programs.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of individualized plans tailored to each participant’s needs.
  • Ensure a safe, engaging, and inclusive environment for all camp participants.
  • Follow health and safety policies and guidelines at all times.
  • Carry out other related duties as assigned by the FIRELLY Physiotherapy and KCA Recreational Therapy teams.
