Reporting to the Executive Director of Marketing and Communications, this position will provide support for all aspects of the marketing and communications efforts for Campus Residences. The Marketing and Communications Coordinator will assist in leading the residential marketing and communications initiatives in support of the residential system, which generates annual revenue. In addition to the Executive Director of Marketing and Communication for Student Affairs, the Associate Director of Housing Administration will provide leadership, management, and support. The ideal candidate will be creative, a self-starter, and will possess the ability to work independently. It is imperative to have excellent verbal and written communications skills and attention to detail.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher).
  • Two (2) years of full-time professional experience working in communications, marketing or public relations (student experience may be considered).
  • Occasionally moves materials, equipment, or cameras weighing up to 50 pounds across campus.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Business, Marketing, English, Journalism or related field.
  • Additional years (3+) of full-time professional experience working in communications, marketing or public relations (student experience may be considered).
  • Experience with effective graphic design, branding principles, and/or marketing.
  • Graphic design and video production experience.
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Cloud.
  • Experience with digital marketing and communications strategies.
  • Experience creating content for social media and the web.
  • Experience interacting with a diverse population of students, faculty and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in leading the residential marketing and communications initiatives in support of the residential system.
  • Create marketing collateral materials, including departmental communications, print materials, graphics, videos, reports, presentations, etc.
  • Provide video production and editing support.
  • Serve as a marketing and communications resource to Campus Residences areas, providing expertise and guidance regarding brand guidelines and content creation, including the creation of apparel and merchandise.
  • Manage storage, organization, and inventory of marketing and promotional materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Coordinate creation of content for Campus Residences’ social media and maintain the content calendar.
  • Monitor social media channels for industry trends.
  • Provide web content support as needed.
  • Assist the Executive Director with creating student-related crisis or emergency communications as needed.
  • Facilitate information and sources for media inquiries, as needed.
  • Partner with Campus Residences departments and other partners to identify newsworthy stories and help gather relevant information for the media.
  • Supervise student marketing staff to support marketing and communications efforts.
  • Assist with budget support.
  • Develop cooperative relationships within the Stony Brook community.
  • Participate in opportunities that promote learning, growth, and development (e.g., classes, training, committee, webinar, etc.).
  • Contribute to the Division of Student Affairs and Stony Brook University by attending and/or supporting events, activities, and programs sponsored by areas outside of your department/unit (e.g., campus-wide traditions, events, programs, etc.).
  • Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and department mission.

Benefits

  • Eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.
  • $4,000 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.
