About The Position

Market Grille Cooks prepare fresh hot and cold menu items from prep through plating, keep the food case stocked, and prepare customer orders with care. The role involves working in a fast-paced kitchen environment and supporting a team focused on quality food and customer service.

Cooks prepare cooking surfaces and menu items such as vegetables, sides, meats, breakfast foods, and heat-and-eat varieties. They monitor and refill hot cases, stay familiar with menu items, take guest orders as needed, and prepare items for upcoming shifts. They also maintain cleanliness and sanitation, help manage supplies, assist elsewhere in the store as needed, and follow Hy-Vee policies and store guidelines.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent experience.
• Six months or less of similar or related work experience.
• Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions in varied situations.
• Ability to perform simple addition and subtraction, copy figures, and count and record accurately.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated directions.
• Ability to communicate supply needs orally or in writing.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Ability to safely use sharp knives and blades for food preparation, where applicable.
• Ability to perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning and sanitation duties.

Responsibilities

• Provide prompt, friendly customer service and make customer interactions positive.
• Prepare cooking surfaces and menu items, including vegetables, sides, meats, breakfast foods, and heat-and-eat varieties.
• Place food in hot cases, monitor quantities, and refill as needed.
• Remain knowledgeable about menu items and take guest orders as needed.
• Prepare items for upcoming shifts.
• Maintain a thorough understanding of Market Grille operations.
• Follow proper sanitation procedures and keep the work area clean and organized.
• Order products and supplies as needed or notify department managers of needs.
• Work with co-workers to support customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
• Assist in other store areas and take on special projects as assigned.
• Follow personal hygiene and dress standards, Hy-Vee policies, and store guidelines.
• Report to work as scheduled and on time.
