About The Position

Octopus is a tech-powered energy company focused on using technology to combat climate change and improve customer experience. They are transforming the energy sector by making it approachable, affordable, understandable, and 100% renewable. The Flexibility-as-a-Service (FaaS) team is at the forefront of the distributed energy revolution in North America, converting home batteries, EVs, heat pumps, and smart thermostats into virtual power plants. These virtual power plants help balance the grid, generate revenue for customers, and facilitate the integration of more renewable energy sources. The team operates in a fast-paced environment at the intersection of wholesale markets, utility programs, regulatory policy, and commercial strategy, offering varied work and rapid opportunities.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience in the energy sector, preferably in areas such as distributed energy resources, DERMS, demand flexibility, virtual power plants, wholesale markets, utilities, or energy policy.
  • Strong quantitative and data analysis skills, with proficiency in Excel and experience with Python, R, SQL, or AI for data analysis.
  • An interdisciplinary mindset, capable of working across commercial, analytical, regulatory, and delivery functions.
  • Excellent communication skills, including clear and persuasive writing and compelling presentation abilities.
  • High tolerance for ambiguity, comfortable with context-switching, reprioritizing, and building solutions in dynamic situations.
  • A strong sense of ownership and pace, driving work forward independently from concept to completion.
