About The Position

The Marine Mechanic Technician performs skilled work in the maintenance and repair of marine engines, marine machinery, and related equipment. The Mechanic Technician is responsible for testing equipment to assess the need for service, as well as performing various repairs and maintenance including the removal and reinstallation of mechanical components and performing optical alignments while following industry and best practices regarding safety standards.

Requirements

  • minimum 2 years’ experience as a marine mechanic/technician
  • Flexible to work overtime, if needed, to meet the company needs
  • Requires bending, climbing, stooping, pushing, pulling, and twisting
  • Requires the ability to use speech, vision and hearing
  • Requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations
  • Requires the ability to lift, carry, push or pull up to 50 pounds

Nice To Haves

  • Running Gear or Hydraulics experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Performs major and specialized mechanical overhaul and repair work on gasoline and marine engines, outboard motors, and related marine equipment and systems using schematic charts and technical manuals
  • Remove and reinstall various mechanical components and equipment on vessels including bow and stern thruster propellers, zincs, propellers, shafts, couplings, cutlass bearings, tides seals, foreign seals, struts, rudders, and rudder bearings
  • Perform dial indications and feeler gauge reports accurately
  • Blue fit check propellers and couplings; fit and lap to taper to obtain proper contact/fit
  • Perform laser alignments on shaft lines
  • Float bearings using optical and Chockfast
  • Repairs and maintains hydraulic equipment and valves
  • Test marine engines and equipment to determine need for repairs or adjustments
  • Perform routine maintenance and servicing of SeaKeeper gyrostabilizer systems in accordance with manufacturer guidelines
  • Conduct system inspections, including cooling systems, hydraulic components, electrical connections, and mounting structures
  • Stocks and assists in maintaining inventory of shop supplies, materials, tools, and equipment
  • Maintains clean, orderly, and safe work areas; properly maintains assigned equipment and tools
  • Documents work performed daily
  • Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the immediate supervisor and staff, co-workers, guests, vendors, contractors, etc.
  • Following company, industry, and best practices regarding safety standards (safe equipment usage, personal protective equipment, reporting)
  • Performs other appropriate tasks and duties as assigned
