About The Position
General Dynamics NASSCO, a member of the General Dynamics Marine Systems business unit, is seeking FIVE Marine Electricians (J1-J4) for day shift (6am - 2:45pm) at their facility in Norfolk, Virginia. The role involves ship construction, repair, conversion, and maintenance for commercial and national defense assets. Successful candidates must be able to obtain DBIDS and NAVSEA badges to access Navy installations and shipyards. This position does not require a security clearance.
Requirements
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical schematics and blueprints.
- Proficiency in planning, laying-out, and installing equipment and cabling.
- Proficiency in using VOMs, Meggers, Amp and Phase rotation meters, etc. for troubleshooting, testing, and circuit analysis.
- Proficiency as a Lead Electrician capable of guiding and training junior electricians with minimum supervision.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting and diagnosing electrical problems to component level.
- Proficiency in accomplishing standard items 009-36 and 16’s on electrical/electronic equipment.
- Ability to pass Connectorization School when training becomes available.
- Good working knowledge of standard items and epism.
- Working knowledge of standard items and epism.
- Good fundamental understanding on how to use electrical test equipment.
- Licensed to operate trade related industrial equipment.
- Well-defined troubleshooting skills.
- Fundamental understanding of power distribution, motors, controllers, transformers, circuit protection and cable ampacity.
- Fundamental knowledge of electrical theory and basic ship’s electrical safety and good work practices.
- Good understanding of electrical safety and good work practices.
- Firm understanding on how to use power and hand tools associated with the trade.
- Firm knowledge on ship’s compartmental layout.
- Capable of running cable including banding, packing transits, packing tubes under direction of a supervisor or senior electrician.
- Capable of installing and hooking up electrical equipment using drawings or “run sheets” under direction of a supervisor or senior electrician.
- Enroll and pass all pre-approved classes on electrical theory, blue print reading and electrical fundamentals.
- Be able to follow instructions from a supervisor.
- Be able to install temporary services using correct wire and breaker sizes.
- Basic knowledge of a ship’s compartmental lay-out.
- Must be able to access all Navy installations and other shipyards by obtaining DBIDS and NAVSEA badges.
