About The Position

General Dynamics NASSCO, a member of the General Dynamics Marine Systems business unit, is seeking FIVE Marine Electricians (J1-J4) for the second shift (3pm - 11pm) in Norfolk, Virginia. NASSCO is involved in ship construction, advanced ship repair, conversion, and maintenance for both commercial and national defense assets. This role requires the ability to access all Navy installations and other shipyards by obtaining DBIDS and NAVSEA badges. No security clearance is required.

Requirements

Proficient at reading and interpreting electrical schematics and blueprints.
Proficient at planning, laying-out and installing equipment and cabling.
Proficient at using VOMs, Meggers, Amp and Phase rotation meters, etc. for troubleshooting, testing, and circuit analysis.
Proficient as a Lead Electrician capable of guiding and training junior electricians with minimum supervision (J4).
Proficient at troubleshooting and diagnosing electrical problems to component level (J4).
Proficient at accomplishing standard items 009-36 and 16’s on electrical/electronic equipment (J4).
Have or be capable of passing Connectorization School when training becomes available (J4).
Have a good working knowledge of standard items and epism (J4).
Have a working knowledge of standard items and epism (J3).
Good fundamental understanding on how to use electrical test equipment (J3).

Licensed to operate trade related industrial equipment (J3).
Well defined troubleshooting skills (J3).
Capable of laying out and installing equipment and cabling under direction of a supervisor or lead electrician (J3).
Fundamental understanding of power distribution, motors, controllers, transformers, circuit protection and cable ampacity (J3).
Should have a fundamental knowledge of electrical theory and basic ship’s electrical safety and good work practices (J2).
Have a good understanding of electrical safety and good work practices (J2).
Have a firm understanding on how to use power and hand tools associated with the trade (J2).
Have a firm knowledge on ship’s compartmental layout (J2).
Capable of running cable including banding, packing transits, packing tubes under direction of a supervisor or senior electrician (J2).
Capable of installing and hooking up electrical equipment using drawings or “run sheets” under direction of a supervisor or senior electrician (J2).
Enroll and pass all pre-approved classes on electrical theory, blue print reading and electrical fundamentals (J1).
Be able to follow instructions from a supervisor (J1).
Be able to install temporary services using correct wire and breaker sizes (J1).
Have a basic knowledge of a ship’s compartmental lay-out (J1).
