About The Position

General Dynamics NASSCO, a member of the General Dynamics Marine Systems business unit, is seeking five Temporary Services Electricians (J1-J4) for their Temporary Services department in Norfolk, Virginia. This role involves ship construction, repair, conversion, and maintenance for commercial and defense assets. The shift for this position is 3 pm - 11 pm. Successful candidates must be able to access all Navy installations and other shipyards by obtaining DBIDS and NAVSEA badges. No security clearance is required.

Requirements

Superior understanding of electrical safety and good work practices (J4).
Meet or exceed all Journeyperson Trade 3 requirements (J4).
Proficient in the applicable NAVSEA Standard Items, OSHA standards, NSTM’s, and regulatory body regulations (J4).
Proficient at reading and interpreting electrical schematics (J4).
Proficient at the use of VOMs, Meggers, Amp and Phase rotation meters, etc. in-way of trouble-shooting, testing and circuit analysis (J4).
Proficient in setting up Temporary Electrical Service Generators and Power Mods IAW all NASSCO and Government requirements (J4).
Excellent understanding of electrical safety and good work practices (J3).
Meet all Journeyperson Trade 2 requirements (J3).
Good personal skills working with others (J3).
Know applicable NAVSEA Standard Item, OSHA standards, and regulatory body regulations (J3).
Able to identify defects in workmanship and the appropriate actions required to correct the defects (J3).
Have a good fundamental understanding on how to use electrical test equipment in-way of trouble-shooting, testing and circuit analysis of Temporary Service Electrical equipment (J3).
Have well-defined knowledge of building, maintaining, troubleshooting and diagnosing electrical problems to component level on Temporary Service Electrical equipment with minimum guidance of a supervisor or lead electrician (J3).
Must have all necessary basic hand-tools on shop list to accomplish any task on hand and excellent knowledge on the correct use of each tool (J3).
Good understanding of electrical safety and good work practices (J2).
Meet all Journeyperson Trade 1 requirements (J2).
Familiar with applicable NAVSEA Standard Items, OSHA standards, and regulatory body regulations (J2).
Possess a fundamental knowledge of reading and interpreting electrical schematics with guidance of a supervisor or lead electrician (J2).
Capable of laying-out and installing equipment and cabling with guidance of a supervisor or lead electrician (J2).
Capable of assisting in building, maintaining, troubleshooting and diagnosing electrical problems to component level of Temporary Service Electrical equipment with guidance of a supervisor or lead electrician (J2).
Capable to assist in setting up Temporary Electrical Service Generators and Power Mods IAW all NASSCO and Government requirements (J2).
Basic understanding of NAVSEA Standard Items 009-08, 009-28 and 009-74 and how each correlates to the installation and maintaining of Temporary Services on board ship and on piers (J2).
Working knowledge on ship’s compartmental layout (J2).
Must have all necessary hand-tools to accomplish any task on hand and satisfactory working knowledge on the correct use of each tool (J2).
Able to identify safety hazards (J1).
Able to read and understand a marine chemist certificate (J1).
Able to perform his/her job safely (J1).
Able to work in all locations where work is required, including but not limited to tanks, voids, cofferdams and elevated locations (J1).
Able to ensure the job site is left in a safe and clean condition prior to departure (J1).
Must have Rapid Gate access or be eligible to obtain Rapid Gate access (J1).
Good verbal and written communication skills (J1).
Able to understand, read and write proficiently in English (J1).
Understanding of electrical safety and good work practices (J1).
Must have current WAF training (J1).
Must be able to access all Navy installations and other shipyards by obtaining DBIDS and NAVSEA badges.

Responsibilities

Plan, organize, and prioritize work.
Oversee a small group of people as a team.
Conduct advanced training to J1-J3 Trade personnel in the execution of work.
Draft and submit required reports.
Draft and submit Condition Found Reports.
Plan, lay-out and install Temporary Service equipment and cabling IAW NSI.
Troubleshoot, test, and perform circuit analysis using VOMs, Meggers, Amp and Phase rotation meters.
Build, maintain, troubleshoot, and diagnose electrical problems to component level on Temporary Service Electrical equipment.
Set up Temporary Electrical Service Generators and Power Mods IAW all NASSCO and Government requirements.
Adhere to the requirements of NAVSEA Standard Items 009-08, 009-28 and 009-74 on installation and maintaining of Temporary Services on board ship and on piers.
Perform job in the appropriate time frame without on-site supervision (J3).
Guide and train junior Temporary Service electricians with minimum supervision (J3).
Collect viable information for required condition reports (J3).
Assist J-4 Trade in collection of information for Condition Found Reports (J3).
Identify defects in workmanship and the appropriate actions required to correct the defects (J3).
Read and interpret schematics with minimum guidance (J3).
Lay-out and install Temporary Service Electrical equipment and cabling with minimum guidance (J3).
Use electrical test equipment for troubleshooting, testing, and circuit analysis (J3).
Build, maintain, troubleshoot, and diagnose electrical problems to component level with minimum guidance (J3).
Possess a fundamental understanding of setting up Temporary Electrical Service Generators and Power Mods (J3).
