About The Position

The 1st Class Marine Electrician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems aboard marine vessels. This role requires advanced technical skills, adherence to safety standards, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or Navy ‘A’/‘C’ school preferred.
• Minimum 5–8 years of marine electrical experience, including AC/DC systems up to 480V and low-voltage controls.
• Proficiency in reading schematics and using electrical test equipment.
• Strong knowledge of maritime safety practices and electrical codes.
• Ability to work in confined spaces and perform physically demanding tasks.
• Correctable vision to 20/40.
• Ability to pass the Ishihara test for color blindness.
• Ability to read and understand safety symbols and colors.
• Ability to stand, sit, walk, squat, kneel, stoop, or climb stairs or a ladder.
• Good balance and the capability of standing on each foot for a period of 30 seconds or more.
• Ability to perform overhead work, as necessary, with a full range of motion.
• Must not be claustrophobic.
• Capability to maneuver through openings as small as 18 inches by 23 inches.
• Ability to move and crawl into awkward positions.
• Ability to work in static positions for extended periods of time.
• Must not have a fear of heights.
• Ability to work in an elevated environment (which could include heights of more than 50 feet) on scaffolding, from staging, planking, or a mechanical lift.
• Ability to carry tools and or equipment to their designated work area. The approximate weight could be as much as 75 pounds.
• Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to respirator, hardhat, face shield, safety goggles, safety shoes (steel toe), safety harness, gloves or other protective clothing as determined by a Senesco Marine Job Hazard Analysis.
• Must report all accidents or injuries to their supervisor and the Environmental Safety and Health Department.
• Must report to their supervisor any and all damages to equipment, or broken and misused tools.
• Needs to work at a pace consistent with meeting company deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, fixtures, switchboards, and control systems on vessels.
• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to determine layout and specifications.
• Conduct inspections and diagnostic tests using instruments such as voltmeters, ammeters, and megohmmeters.
• Troubleshoot and resolve electrical issues efficiently to minimize downtime.
• Ensure compliance with ABS, USCG, and company safety regulations.
• Collaborate with other trades during vessel construction and repair projects.
• Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used.
