About The Position

As an Electrician at Colonna’s Shipyard, Inc., you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems and components aboard ships and within the shipyard facilities. This role involves working on a wide range of electrical projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety regulations. The position is located onsite in Norfolk, VA and will often require hours beyond a standard work week with flexible schedule availability to support production/operations. Position may require limited travel.

Requirements

• Must have at least 5 years of experience as an electrician, preferably in a marine or shipyard environment; or have graduated from a registered apprenticeship program relevant to the trade.
• Demonstrated proficiency in electrical installation, maintenance, and repair.
• Strong understanding of electrical systems and components.
• Must be able to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications.

Nice To Haves

• Previous technical training highly preferred.
• Completed Cableway Inspection course

Responsibilities

• Install electrical systems, including wiring, fixtures, and control equipment, aboard vessels and within shipyard facilities.
• Perform routine maintenance and repairs on electrical systems to ensure optimal performance and safety.
• Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to determine the layout of electrical systems and components.
• Test electrical systems and components using appropriate testing devices to ensure proper installation and functionality.
• Diagnose and resolve electrical issues, implementing effective solutions to ensure minimal downtime and disruption.
• Select and evaluate electrical materials, ensuring suitability and quality for specific tasks and projects.
• Maintain accurate records of work performed, including materials used, time spent, and project progress.
• Collaborate with other tradespeople and departments to complete projects within specified timelines.
• Effectively perform work multiple projects concurrently, demonstrating the ability to prioritize tasks and responsibilities successfully.
• Mentor department employees and other assigned crew members, providing support and training as needed.
