About The Position

Fletcher Technical Community College is seeking a Marine Electrician Instructor to join the Academic Affairs department, specifically within the Energy & Advanced Technologies sub-department. This is an unclassified, 12-month faculty appointment. The instructor will be responsible for delivering engaging instruction in marine electrical systems, equipment, troubleshooting, safety practices, and industry procedures. The role involves teaching credit and non-credit courses, maintaining a schedule, providing student support, and ensuring students understand and apply safe work practices. The instructor will also develop course materials, utilize various teaching methods, monitor student progress, advise and mentor students, and support their transition to employment or further education. Building relationships with industry partners, contributing to curriculum development, participating in college activities, and maintaining instructional equipment are also key aspects of the role. The instructor will promote an inclusive and respectful learning environment.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• At least 36 months of professional experience as a Marine Electrician.
• Working knowledge of marine electrical systems, safe electrical practices, equipment, tools, troubleshooting, and industry procedures.
• NCCER Core or OSHA certification preferred, or the ability to obtain the required certification within 90 days of hire.
• Ability to teach a range of electrician and marine electrical courses.
• Strong instructional, classroom-management, organizational, and student-support skills.
• Proficiency with computers, instructional technology, and course-management systems.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• A collaborative, student-first mindset and commitment to accessibility, equity, safety, and professional excellence.

Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging classroom, lab, and hands-on instruction in marine electrical systems, equipment, troubleshooting, safety practices, and industry procedures.
• Teach assigned credit and non-credit courses while maintaining a dependable schedule of classes, office hours, tutoring, and student support.
• Ensure students understand and consistently apply safe work practices, proper equipment use, housekeeping, material storage, and electrical procedures.
• Develop, maintain, and deliver course syllabi, lesson plans, assessments, and instructional materials aligned with College and program standards.
• Use a variety of teaching methods, technology, and assessment tools to support diverse learning styles and improve student outcomes.
• Monitor student attendance, progress, and performance; provide timely feedback, maintain accurate records, and meet reporting and grading deadlines.
• Advise, mentor, and tutor students, connecting them with support services when needed and helping them stay on track toward completion.
• Support students’ transition to employment or additional education through career guidance, recommendations, job leads, and information on certifications and pathways.
• Build and maintain relationships with local business and industry partners to strengthen placement opportunities, workforce alignment, and supplemental training initiatives.
• Help shape and improve the program through curriculum development, learning-outcomes assessment, program advisory committee participation, and collaboration with faculty and staff.
• Participate in student recruitment, registration, retention, open-house events, college committees, professional development, and other campus activities.
• Maintain instructional equipment and technology in safe, operational condition.
• Promote an inclusive, respectful, professional learning environment for students, visitors, and colleagues from all backgrounds.
