About The Position

Fletcher Technical Community College is seeking an Adjunct Instructor for Marine Electrical Systems within the Energy & Advanced Technologies department. This role involves delivering engaging, hands-on instruction in marine electrical systems, electrical procedures, equipment use, and workplace safety. The instructor will teach assigned credit and/or non-credit courses, maintain a reliable presence, and develop course syllabi aligned with College requirements. A key aspect of the role is creating an inclusive and supportive classroom environment that fosters student success, respect, and professional growth. Responsibilities include monitoring student progress, providing feedback, advising students on career pathways, and ensuring instructional equipment is safe and functional. The instructor must remain accessible to students and collaborate with faculty and staff to support departmental and College goals. Participation in required trainings and adherence to College policies are also expected.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
At least 36 months of professional work experience in the marine electrical field.
Demonstrated knowledge of safe electrical practices, equipment operation, and industry-standard procedures.
Strong instructional, organizational, and classroom-management skills.
A student-centered approach with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to learners with varied experience levels.
Effective verbal, written, and digital communication skills.
Comfort using computers, instructional technology, and course-management systems.
A commitment to equity, accessibility, professionalism, and respectful collaboration.

Responsibilities

Deliver engaging, hands-on instruction in marine electrical systems, electrical procedures, equipment use, and workplace safety.
Teach assigned credit and/or non-credit courses; maintain a reliable, punctual presence for all scheduled class sessions.
Develop and post course syllabi aligned with approved master syllabi and College course-management requirements.
Create an inclusive, supportive classroom environment that promotes student success, respect, and professional growth.
Monitor attendance, academic progress, and performance; provide timely feedback and submit required records, grades, and reports by established deadlines.
Advise and mentor students on course progress, career pathways, employment opportunities, and further education.
Refer students who may be at risk academically to appropriate advising or counseling resources.
Ensure instructional equipment, tools, and technology are safe, functional, and ready for student use.
Remain accessible to students by phone or email, responding within 24 hours on workdays and 48 hours on weekends.
Collaborate with faculty, staff, and program leadership to support department and College goals.
Participate in required trainings, professional development, and credentialing activities.
Represent the College professionally and follow all College, LCTC, safety, accessibility, and student-conduct policies.
