Manufacturing Technician - Level 1
About The Position
Northrop Grumman’s Space Sector is seeking a Manufacturing Technician – Level 1 to join our team in Charlotte, NC. This position is 100% onsite and cannot accommodate telecommute work. SYNOPTICS is the world-wide leader in the growth, fabrication, and coating of crystalline materials used in laser systems. These “solid-state” laser crystals are used in products ranging from medical lasers to military laser systems. The Charlotte facility has been operating for over 60 years in the laser industry and has developed the reputation of providing the highest quality products with timely deliveries. Within the facility, solid-state oxide and fluoride crystals are grown from a high-temperature melt. SYNOPTICS has full optical fabrication capabilities for various plano and spherical geometries. SYNOPTICS serves the photonics and optics industry across the globe. A Manufacturing Technician in the Crystal Growth department will collaborate within a technical team comprised of engineers, welders, and maintenance staff to perform all daily tasks associated with production of oxide and fluoride single crystals grown from the melt in high temperature furnaces.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent and 0 years additional education and/or related experience.
- No clearance required to start.
- Experience with standard hand tools and measuring devices including calipers and rulers.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs. on a frequent basis.
- Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and willingness to learn.
- Must have computer experience and be able to work with spreadsheets.
Nice To Haves
- Associates degree in a technical discipline.
- Strong aptitude in basic math and science disciplines including physics and chemistry.
- Crystal growth experience is preferred but not required.
- Mechanical aptitude and good troubleshooting skills.

- Monitoring data and graphs.
- Harvesting and evaluating final crystal products.
- Assembling growth furnaces.
- Preparing the raw materials used in the process.
- Harvesting and inspection of the crystals.
