Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history. Northrop Grumman’s Space Sector is seeking a Manufacturing Technician – Level 1 to join our team in Charlotte, NC. This position is 100% onsite and cannot accommodate telecommute work. An organization within Northrop Grumman’s, SYNOPTICS is the world-wide leader in the growth, fabrication, and coating of crystalline materials used in laser systems. These “solid-state” laser crystals are used in products ranging from medical lasers to military laser systems. The Charlotte facility has been operating for over 60 years in the laser industry and has developed the reputation of providing the highest quality products with timely deliveries. Within the facility, solid-state oxide and fluoride crystals are grown from a high-temperature melt. SYNOPTICS has full optical fabrication capabilities for various plano and spherical geometries. Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent and 0 years additional education and/or related experience.
  • Experience with standard hand tools and measuring devices including calipers and rulers.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. on a frequent basis.
  • Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and willingness to learn.
  • Must have computer experience and be able to work with spreadsheets.

Nice To Haves

  • Associates degree in a technical discipline.
  • Strong aptitude in basic math and science disciplines including physics and chemistry.
  • Crystal growth experience is preferred but not required.
  • Mechanical aptitude and good troubleshooting skills.

Responsibilities

  • Building and monitoring of crystal growth furnaces.
  • Weighing and mixing raw materials.
  • Operating crystal growth furnaces.
  • Monitoring data and graphs.
  • Harvesting and evaluating final crystal products.
  • Gaining hands-on experience operating specialized equipment.
  • Gaining a technical understanding of the art and science of bulk crystal growth processes.
  • Assembling growth furnaces.
  • Preparing the raw materials used in the process.
  • Harvesting and inspection of the crystals.
