About The Position

We are seeking a Manufacturing Engineer, Compressor Assembly to join our federal team at our York, PA location. Responsible for supporting and improving compressor assembly manufacturing processes. Develops solutions for production problems involving compressor components, materials flow, assembly methods, and tooling. Supports ongoing production by refining existing processes, designing and improving fixtures, and enhancing production controls used in compressor assembly. Responsible for set-up, validation, and operator training for new or upgraded equipment installed within compressor assembly. Applies sound economic and engineering methods to optimize equipment utilization, workstation layout, and space usage, ensuring safe, efficient, and low‑cost production in alignment with facility goals. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering with three (3) to five (5) years of progressive hands‑on manufacturing engineering experience, preferably in mechanical assembly or rotating equipment.
  • In lieu of a degree, 7–10 years of relevant manufacturing engineering experience may be considered.
  • Requires strong analytical skills and experience with formal problem‑solving methods (8D, A3, DMAIC).
  • Must have experience improving or supporting production processes and familiarity with lean manufacturing principles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), and 3D CAD software are required.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining standard work instructions and production controls.
  • Skilled in identifying cost-reduction opportunities and improving operational efficiency.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work cross-functionally with Supply Chain, Quality, Engineering, and Safety teams.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 40 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience specific to compressor assembly, machining, or heat‑treatment support is highly preferred.
  • Experience with SolidWorks or Creo.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and improves compressor assembly processes, methods, tooling, and fixturing; supports trials and validation of updated processes.
  • Provides daily technical support to compressor assembly, resolving issues with part fit‑up, torque, assembly sequence, material flow, machining interfaces, and heat‑treated components.
  • Manages capital planning and procurement for compressor assembly equipment (presses, torque tools, lifting devices, leak‑test systems, measurement tools).
  • Leads continuous improvement and cost‑reduction activities, including ergonomics, takt‑time alignment, defect reduction, and material flow optimization.
  • Leads, reviews, and approves engineering drawing modifications through the formal Engineering Change Notice (ECN) process.
  • Maintains and troubleshoots manufacturing support software (routers, digital work instructions, error‑proofing systems, tooling databases).
  • Performs work measurement and defines standard work; balances operations to meet TAKT time and support flow‑line production.
  • Plans and implements facility and layout changes to meet production volume, improve ergonomics, and streamline compressor assembly flow.
  • Supports Lean and Flow Manufacturing initiatives, including point‑of‑use storage, standardized work, material presentation, and visual controls.
  • Collaborates closely with machining department to resolve upstream component issues, optimize manufacturability, and ensure seamless flow between machining and compressor assembly.
  • Leads and supports 6S activities in compressor assembly.
  • Participates in and leads Kaizen events to improve assembly reliability, efficiency, inspection flow, and defect reduction.
