The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for the design, requisition, order processing, documentation and implementation of continuous improvement initiatives as related to manufacturing processes, fixturing, tooling, and production equipment. Works closely with production personnel to solve problems using lean manufacturing principles. Provides CAD/CAM support in material removal manufacturing environment with multi-axis turning, milling, EDM and precision grinding equipment. Requirements

  • Technical certificate or Associate’s Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing or Industrial Technology Degree, or 5-years applicable work experience with training in solid model CAD system is required.
  • Three years’ experience as Manufacturing Engineer-tooling or Minimum of 5-years’ experience working in tooling or manufacturing engineering field with CNC material removal processes.
  • Must be capable of generating CAD solid model and drawings with proper tolerances of machine and work holding components.
  • Experience in requisitioning items, creating process routings, material grade selection per application and interfacing with vendors is required.
  • PTC Creo experience or similar solid-model CAD software for designing and detailing mechanical elements for machines, work holding, and tooling.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software including PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Use ERP system (SAP) for production order processing, process routings and purchase requisitions.
  • All applicants offered employment will complete substance and physical capacity testing.

  • Strong background in 4-axis machining and/or precision grinding.

Responsibilities

  • Generate manufacturing process routings to ensure cost-effective, high-quality precision components.
  • Evaluate and determine internal manufacturing or purchase BOM items.
  • Use PTC Creo CAD software to develop solid models, drawings and BOM for fixturing, tooling and machine components to support manufacturing operations via engineering request system.
  • Apply geometric tolerances and mechanical drafting standards to ensure proper form-fit-function.
  • Create work holding product quotations with target margin for sales/customer inquiries.
  • Participate on continuous improvement kaizen teams, apply lean techniques of problem solving including; PDCA, Five-Whys, Fish Bone Diagrams, Pareto Charts, Gemba, Polka-Yoke, 6S, DOE, TPM, OEE, VSM,etc.
  • Understand ISO quality and environmental programs.
  • Provides hand-on production support in material removal manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to develop parameter driven macro-based ISO g-code or EIA for CNC machinery.
  • Work with tooling vendors to identify opportunities for testing and machining efficiency improvement opportunities.
  • Organize, Perform and document tooling trials, clearly identify and communicate results for cost reduction and/or cycle time improvements. Tooling includes, but not limited to, perishable tooling, grinding wheels, truing tools, dressing tools, coolants, filtration, etc.
  • Coordinate with supply chain, production supervision and tooling integrator the proper inventory obsolescence of old and introduction of new tooling.
  • Participate in developing technical specifications, procurement, acceptance, and implementation of new and rebuilt production equipment.
  • Produce documentation of processes and operating instructions including speeds, feeds, tooling, quality control techniques, etc.
