Manufacturing Engineer II, Primary Structures

Relativity Space•Long Beach, CA
•$104,000 - $156,000

About The Position

Relativity Space is hiring a Manufacturing Engineer II for its Stage Manufacturing team, which builds Terran R’s primary structures and develops the systems and processes used to manufacture the rocket. The role provides design-for-manufacturing feedback to structures teams during development and through prototype and flight builds. It works closely with design, manufacturing, reliability, production, and vendor teams to solve build issues and keep primary-structure assembly work moving on the shop floor. The engineer will improve assembly processes across multiple work centers, incorporate lessons from the first Terran R build, and develop work instructions, specifications, and best practices for high-fidelity manufacturing processes. Relativity describes its environment as collaborative and focused on real-time problem solving, process improvement, and scaling production.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, aeronautical, mechanical engineering, or another engineering discipline.
  • At least 2 years of progressive, related experience.
  • Strong history of supporting complicated assembly builds and making regular risk decisions to disposition build issues and keep production moving.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with engineering and manufacturing groups to understand process constraints and provide design inputs that improve manufacturability.
  • Strong engineering fundamentals in statics, mechanics of materials, process improvement and factory design, fastening and joining, and machining.
  • Expert knowledge of common drilling and trim operations, other manufacturing processes, tools, inspection methods, and GD&T.

Nice To Haves

  • Direct experience with forming, welding, drilling, trimming, and fastening operations for aerospace products.
  • Successful experience introducing an aerospace hardware system into manufacturing, test, and production systems.
  • Experience managing projects in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Design for Manufacturing feedback to structures teams during development and through the first prototype and flight builds.
  • Collaborate with design, manufacturing, and reliability engineers, internal production teams, and external vendors to drive progress.
  • Cover the shop floor for primary-structure work-center assembly, clearing barriers and keeping production moving.
  • Champion process improvements across multiple work centers to improve assembly operations and incorporate feedback and learnings from the first Terran R build.
  • Create work instructions, specifications, and best practices for multiple high-fidelity processes.
  • Help standardize processes across the manufacturing team.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary and equity.
  • Generous PTO and sick leave policy.
  • Parental leave.
  • Annual learning and development stipend.
