Manufacturing Engineer II, Testbeds & EGSE

Muon Space•San Jose, CA
•$159,000 - $178,000•Onsite

About The Position

Muon Space is hiring a Manufacturing Engineer to join its Testbeds & EGSE team, which builds Hardware-In-The-Loop (HITL) testbeds and electrical ground support equipment (EGSE) used to interface with satellites during assembly, integration, and test. The role owns the documentation systems that support repeatable builds, including procedures and the team's internal knowledge base. The position requires an electrical engineering or embedded software background sufficient to understand the systems being documented, including reading schematics and block diagrams and following software-driven test flows. The engineer will work closely with hardware and technicians by shadowing engineering builds, assisting on the floor, and developing and refining procedures alongside the technicians who use them. This role is onsite at Muon's San Jose location five days a week. Muon Space, founded in 2021, designs, builds, and operates low Earth orbit satellite constellations that deliver mission-critical data. Its Silicon Valley facility supports spacecraft manufacturing and flexible payload integration. The company describes its mission as delivering Earth Intelligence for a safer and more resilient world. Applicants must meet applicable U.S. Government export-control access requirements for the position.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in manufacturing, test, or hardware engineering, with significant ownership of procedures, work instructions, or engineering documentation.
  • Electrical engineering or embedded software background, including the ability to read schematics and block diagrams and follow software-driven test flows.
  • Excellent technical writing skills, producing clear, precise documentation usable by someone other than the author.
  • Hands-on hardware fluency and comfort working at a bench with assemblies, harnesses, and basic test equipment.
  • Systematic and organized approach, with experience administering documentation, PLM, or knowledge-base tools.
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional coordination skills.
  • B.S. in an engineering discipline or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Must meet the stated export-controlled information access requirements: be a U.S. person, be eligible to access the information without export authorization, or be eligible and reasonably likely to obtain required authorization.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in HITL, test lab, or production test environments.
  • Experience establishing documentation systems or templates from scratch.
  • Familiarity with knowledge-base and PLM platforms such as Confluence or Duro.
  • Scripting skills such as Python for documentation automation or diagram generation.
  • Aerospace or other high-reliability industry experience.
  • Familiarity with a Linux development environment.

Responsibilities

  • Own the team's procedure and work-instruction system, including templates, standards, and the release process.
  • Write assembly, checkout, and maintenance procedures for testbeds and EGSE, shadowing engineering builds to capture steps at the source.
  • Keep existing procedures current as designs evolve and drive redlines and updates to closure.
  • Own, structure, and maintain the team's internal knowledge base so it remains authoritative.
  • Maintain testbed block diagrams and system documentation as configurations change across missions.
  • Manage HITL maintenance communications, including announcements, downtime coordination, and status updates to teams that depend on testbed availability.
  • Assist technicians on the floor and iterate procedures until they are proven; train the team on documentation standards.
  • Identify process and buildability improvements from build feedback and convey design-for-assembly input to design engineers.
