RF Test Engineer I, Testbeds & EGSE

Muon Space•San Jose, CA
•Onsite

About The Position

Muon is seeking an early-career RF Hardware Test Engineer for its Testbeds & EGSE team. The team builds Hardware-In-The-Loop (HITL) testbeds for Muon missions and electrical ground support equipment (EGSE) used to interface with satellites during assembly, integration, and testing. The engineer will work alongside senior engineers to assemble and bring up mission testbeds and contribute to the design of next-generation EGSE. Candidates may have backgrounds in electrical engineering, embedded software, mechanical engineering, or industrial controls; hands-on ability, curiosity about integrated systems, and eagerness to learn are emphasized. The role requires onsite work at Muon’s San Jose location five days per week. The position requires access to export-controlled information. Applicants must meet the applicable U.S. export-control eligibility requirements described in the posting. Muon is an end-to-end space systems provider founded in 2021, designing, building, and operating LEO satellite constellations that deliver mission-critical data.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of hands-on experience building, testing, or debugging hardware in a complex electromechanical system; internships and substantial project work count.
  • Background in electrical engineering, embedded software, mechanical engineering, or industrial controls.
  • Hands-on hardware skills, including assembly, wiring, and basic troubleshooting with tools such as multimeters and oscilloscopes.
  • Understanding of electronics fundamentals and common communication interfaces such as UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, and Ethernet.
  • Basic scripting or programming ability in Python or Bash.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a hands-on approach to engineering challenges.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with a strong desire to learn in a fast-paced environment.
  • B.S. in an engineering discipline or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Comfort working in a Linux-heavy development environment.
  • Ability to meet the applicable export-control eligibility requirements for access to export-controlled information.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with industrial automation or rack-based electronics and networking.
  • Aerospace or other high-reliability industry experience.

Responsibilities

  • Build, integrate, and bring up HITL testbed hardware—including racks, avionics modules, harnessing, and external interfaces—for each mission.
  • Assist in designing testbed hardware and next-generation EGSE used to power, command, and monitor satellites during integration and testing.
  • Work with the electrical missions team to translate flight hardware designs, including block diagrams, schematics, and drawings, into each mission’s testbed configuration.
  • Debug hardware and interface issues across testbeds in collaboration with electrical, software, and systems engineers.
  • Maintain testbed support infrastructure, including power, network, and lab resources, and help respond when systems go down.
  • Create and maintain testbed architecture diagrams, build records, and checkout procedures.
  • Coordinate with supply chain and production teams on testbed inventory and module builds.
