RF Test Engineer II, Testbeds & EGSE

Muon Space•San Jose, CA
•Onsite

About The Position

Muon is seeking an RF Test Engineer to join its Testbeds & EGSE team, which develops Hardware-In-The-Loop (HITL) testbeds for Muon missions and electrical ground support equipment (EGSE) for satellite assembly, integration, and testing. The role leads the design of future testbed infrastructure and next-generation EGSE while contributing hands-on to the build and bring-up of current testbeds. The team works across electrical, embedded software, mechanical, and industrial controls disciplines. The engineer will collaborate with the electrical missions team to define testbeds that parallel mission flight hardware and will see designs move from concept to everyday use across the company. The role requires onsite work at the San Jose location five days per week. Muon Space, founded in 2021, designs, builds, and operates low Earth orbit satellite constellations that deliver mission-critical data. Its facility in Silicon Valley supports spacecraft manufacturing and payload integration. This position requires access to export-controlled information; applicants must meet the applicable U.S. export-control eligibility requirements described in the posting.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience with complex electromechanical systems, including at least 2 years in test, testbed, or test-infrastructure development.
  • Background in electrical engineering, embedded software, mechanical engineering, or industrial controls.
  • Experience designing electrical, mechanical, or integrated hardware that others build and use.
  • Experience using RF testing equipment.
  • Ability to read and work from electrical schematics, block diagrams, and production drawings.
  • Strong hands-on debugging skills across hardware and software interfaces using standard test equipment such as multimeters and oscilloscopes.
  • Scripting or programming ability in Python, Bash, or a similar language.
  • Understanding of electronics fundamentals and common communication interfaces such as UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, and Ethernet.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, and comfort working in a fast-paced environment.
  • B.S. in an engineering discipline or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Comfort working in a Linux development environment.
  • Must meet applicable U.S. government export-control eligibility requirements for access to export-controlled information.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with HITL testbeds, lab automation, or large-scale test infrastructure.
  • Electrical CAD experience, preferably Altium, or experience with harness design tools.
  • Mechanical CAD experience, preferably SolidWorks, for rack and fixture design.
  • Experience with industrial automation or rack-based electronics, networking, and power distribution.
  • Aerospace or other high-reliability industry experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design of future HITL testbed infrastructure, including architecture, form factor, non-satellite hardware, and external interfaces.
  • Lead the design of next-generation EGSE used to power, command, and monitor satellites during integration and testing.
  • Work with the electrical missions team to define each testbed's parallel of mission flight hardware, translating block diagrams, schematics, and drawings into testbed designs.
  • Build, integrate, and bring up testbed hardware with the team, and support the fleet in daily operation.
  • Generate and maintain testbed architecture diagrams, interface definitions, and design documentation.
  • Debug hardware and interface issues across testbeds to root cause, collaborating with electrical, software, and systems engineers.
  • Coordinate with supply chain, production, and facilities teams on testbed inventory, module builds, and support resources such as power and network.
  • Guide junior engineers and technicians and drive testbed designs that scale with an increasingly capable satellite fleet.

Benefits

  • Equity compensation and a competitive equity grant.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • 401(k) retirement plan.
  • Short- and long-term disability insurance.
  • Life insurance.
