EliteProTek•Costa Mesa, CA

About The Position

The Manual Inspector performs receiving, first article, in-process, and final inspections of machine components, including dimensional, visual, and surface-finish evaluations. The role uses precision measurement equipment and established inspection standards to identify defects and determine whether parts meet requirements. The inspector documents accurate results in QMS software, prepares nonconformance reports, and maintains part traceability through final disposition. The position also supports quality improvement and corrective-action work with Quality, Engineering, and Production teams.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least 10 years of experience in a quality control environment performing manual dimensional and visual inspection of machine components across receiving, first article, and final inspection.
  • Proficiency with precision measuring instruments and setting up inspections on a surface plate.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel, for data entry and documentation.
  • Experience entering and maintaining inspection data in QMS software with 100% accuracy.

Responsibilities

  • Perform receiving, first article, in-process, and final inspections using micrometers, calipers, height gauges, bore gauges, pin and thread gauges, dial indicators, and optical comparators.
  • Evaluate parts under appropriate lighting and magnification for cosmetic and surface defects, including scratches, dents, burrs, porosity, and plating or coating flaws; disposition findings against established visual standards and boundary samples.
  • Measure surface finish on machined surfaces using profilometers, surface roughness testers, and comparator standards such as Ra and Rz; identify out-of-tolerance conditions and report results for quality review.
  • Enter inspection data into QMS software with 100% accuracy and verify entries before submission.
  • Interpret engineering drawings and specifications and apply GD&T according to ASME/ANSI standards.
  • Write detailed nonconformance reports (NCRs) with precise measurements, part and lot identification, and labeled photos showing defect location and extent.
  • Tag nonconforming parts, segregate them in quarantine or hold areas, and maintain traceability until final disposition.
  • Maintain inspection tools and gauges, confirm calibration before use, and remove damaged or out-of-calibration equipment from service.
