About The Position

Manchester Tech Camp is a two-week summer STEAM program for students entering grades 5-12, held at UNH Manchester. The camp aims to foster interest in science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics through interactive, hands-on activities. Project Co-Leaders are responsible for directing and implementing the curriculum of projects within the camp, working alongside a project leader who is a content expert. These roles require teaching experience and pedagogical content knowledge. The co-leader will co-develop and design hands-on activities, ensure curriculum accessibility and developmental appropriateness, co-coordinate resources (space, time, supplies, budget), co-implement projects with campers, ensure camper health and safety, maintain a positive and respectful attitude, and help evaluate the project's success.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in education, a STEAM field, recreation management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to shift priorities quickly and maintain a positive mindset in the face of challenges.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • A successful background check is required.
  • Must attend a required staff training half-day hosted by the Manchester Tech Camp Leadership team in July.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working in a summer camp or similar youth-focused program.
  • Experience working with diverse populations, including children with special needs or from different cultural backgrounds.

Responsibilities

  • Co-design hands-on activities for an inquiry-based project with campers.
  • Coordinate space, time, supplies, and budget for the project.
  • Implement the project with the campers during the designed week(s) at camp.
  • Ensure project activities meet all health and safety requirements imposed by Manchester Tech Camp and UNH Youth Programs.
  • Evaluate the success of the project at the end and note improvements to be made for future implementation.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom where campers feel safe, valued, and empowered to explore new experiences.
  • Address camper concerns, accidents, and behavior issues in a proactive and constructive manner, including bringing incidents to the Manchester Tech Camp manager for prompt resolution in compliance with UNH Youth Programs protocols for behavior management and incident reporting.
  • Serve as an exemplary role model to campers and staff in attitude and respectful behavior.
  • Serve as a positive ambassador to the camp and university when interacting with families or other community members who may be visiting the camp.

Benefits

  • Compensation: $850.00 ($100 for mandatory training day and $750 for one week of camp).
