About The Position

Exponent is seeking a Managing Engineer for its Metallurgical & Corrosion Engineering Practice in Chicago, IL or Warrenville, IL. This role involves developing business and expanding the practice in a specific technical area. The position requires identifying and securing new business opportunities, significantly increasing Exponent's metallurgical and corrosion engineering consulting efforts, particularly in laboratory-based analysis, and analyzing safety, performance, and reliability issues using field inspections, engineering analysis, and experimental testing.

Requirements

Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering, Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline
At least 5 – 10 years of related professional experience
Licensure as a professional engineer (PE or P. Eng) in Metallurgical Engineering or related discipline is required.
Specialized knowledge of operating a laboratory with materials characterization techniques (e.g., SEM, FIB, TEM, EDS, XPS, Auger, SIMS, FTIR, acoustic microscopy, X-ray)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work independently or in multidisciplinary teams
A record of professional papers and presentations, and a proven record of dedication to quality and accuracy
Presently legally authorized to work in the US, no immigration sponsorship or visa processing required

Nice To Haves

Litigation experience as a testifying expert is preferred but not required.
Business development experience with a proven track record
The ideal candidate will be a recognized leader in their field
Ability to attract projects to support full-time staff

Responsibilities

Identifying, developing, and securing new business opportunities
Significantly increasing Exponent's metallurgical and corrosion engineering consulting efforts, particularly in laboratory-based analysis
Analyzing a wide variety of safety, performance, and reliability issues related to metallurgical and corrosion engineering using field inspections, engineering analysis and experimental testing
Manage and develop a group of highly motivated individuals
