About The Position

Exponent is seeking a Managing Engineer (Ph.D.) for its Biomechanics Practice in Seattle, WA. This role involves working within a multidisciplinary team to address complex engineering issues related to human injury analyses in various settings. Key responsibilities include evaluating the human body's response to forces during accidents, biomechanical accident reconstruction, assessing human injury mechanics and potential, and characterizing human interaction with safety systems. The role also entails executing consulting projects focused on vehicle occupant protection system performance, safety assessments, and regulatory compliance. The position requires developing a personal consulting practice and professional growth within Exponent, managing projects from start to finish, communicating updates to stakeholders, ensuring project deadlines and quality, and identifying business development opportunities. Additionally, the role involves developing and growing the Biomechanics Practice in Seattle, attracting new projects and clients, maintaining client relationships, building and leading diverse teams, mentoring technical staff, overseeing project budgets, setting up and executing test programs (including vehicle and component tests), and inspecting/analyzing vehicles, accident sites, and evidence. Promoting Exponent's expertise and professional reputation through publications, conference presentations, and committee service is also expected.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Biomechanical Engineering, Bioengineering, Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering field
  • 6+ years’ of post-graduation experience in human injury analyses
  • Ability to generate business and manage client relationships
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to interact with managers, engineers, non-technical personnel, and clients and present technical topics in a cogent and comprehensible manner
  • Presently legally authorized to work in the United States; no immigration sponsorship or processing required
