About The Position

Exponent is seeking a Managing Engineer (Ph.D.) for its Biomechanics Practice in Seattle, WA. This role involves working within a multidisciplinary team to address complex engineering issues related to human injury analyses in various settings. Responsibilities include evaluating the human body's response to forces during accidents, biomechanical accident reconstruction, assessing human injury mechanics and potential, and characterizing human interaction with safety systems for injury mitigation. The role also entails executing consulting projects focused on vehicle occupant protection system performance, safety assessments, and regulatory compliance. A key aspect of this position is developing a personal consulting practice and fostering professional growth within Exponent.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Biomechanical Engineering, Bioengineering, Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering field.
  • 6+ years of post-graduation experience in human injury analyses.
  • Ability to generate business and manage client relationships.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to interact with managers, engineers, non-technical personnel, and clients and present technical topics in a cogent and comprehensible manner.
  • Presently legally authorized to work in the United States; no immigration sponsorship or processing required.

Responsibilities

  • Managing projects from initiation to completion, including communication of project updates to team members, clients, and administrative staff, ensuring deadlines are met and work product is exceptional.
  • Identifying business development opportunities.
  • Developing and growing the Biomechanics Practice in Seattle.
  • Attracting and developing new projects and clients.
  • Maintaining and advancing strong relationships with existing clients.
  • Building and leading diverse teams.
  • Mentoring and developing technical staff.
  • Providing project management and project budget oversight.
  • Setting up and executing various test programs, including full-scale vehicle tests and component or control systems evaluations.
  • Overseeing inspections, testing, and engineering analyses of vehicles, accident sites, and other evidence.
  • Attracting projects to support full-time staff as well as effectively managing and developing a group of highly motivated junior consultants.
  • Promoting Exponent’s multidisciplinary consulting expertise and professional reputation through publishing papers, presenting at conferences, conducting seminars, or serving on expert advisory and scientific/technical committees.
