About The Position

ABRAMS is seeking a Managing Editorial Intern to join their Managing Editorial team for the Fall Internship Program. This unpaid internship, offered for academic credit only, provides hands-on experience in book publishing. Interns will gain insight into the full lifecycle of book production, from copyediting to final files sent to the printer, and collaborate with various creative departments. The program aims to prepare future publishing talent by offering practical skill development, learning opportunities, and networking with industry professionals.

Requirements

  • Must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student at an accredited academic institution.
  • This internship is not open to recent graduates.
  • Currently enrolled in a college program with a focus/major in English, publishing, or another relevant subject
  • Experience using Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word
  • Proactive with strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Motivated to learn, grow, research, solve problems, and work closely with the Managing Editorial staff

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with copyediting and/or proofreading is not required
  • Located in the New York City area and able to come into our office on a hybrid basis, especially when first training. Some remote work will also be acceptable.

Responsibilities

  • Update title information in TMM (our database)
  • Check corrections in book layouts
  • Proofread book elements or marketing materials
  • Code manuscripts for Design
  • Request and review cover copy
  • Create copyright pages
  • Attend weekly department meetings
  • Overall assistance to the department
  • Learning and networking with ABRAMS employees, publishing professionals, and fellow interns during this internship experience for academic credit
  • Gaining hands-on exposure to the publishing industry, from concept to finished product
  • Supporting research, project work, and day-to-day tasks within your assigned department
  • Contributing ideas and providing creative input on department projects
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams and learning about various areas of the publishing business
  • Participating in workshops and discussions designed to deepen your understanding of publishing trends and processes
  • Receiving coaching, mentorship, and feedback from experienced ABRAMS professionals
