About The Position

This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time (a maximum of 20 hours per week) Student Information Technology position for a current Oregon State University student who will work in the College of Science (COS) Dean's Office at OSU. The College of Science is looking for a talented and creative journalism/digital media current OSU student who is highly motivated, enthusiastic and skilled in the art of storytelling and crafting thought-provoking communications. In this position, you will produce content for print, digital and social media channels and gain hands-on experience. You will write about a wide range of topics such as science student activities, faculty and student profiles, academic programs, College news, groundbreaking research (in biology, zoology, biochemistry, microbiology, mathematics, physics and chemistry), events, scholarships and anything that will engage readers while raising the visibility and impact of science. The Editorial and Content Intern will work in our cool marketing space in Kidder Hall and learn from our award-winning creative team of designers and writers in the dean's office. We are looking for a currently enrolled OSU student who is self-motivated and takes initiative to craft story ideas.

Requirements

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
  • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
  • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
  • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term
  • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
  • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term
  • International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS) and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
  • Required Must be a currently enrolled OSU student.

  • Interest in supporting the ambassador program is preferred. Responsibilities may include greeting tour attendees, accompanying campus tours and, if interested, leading tours.

Responsibilities

  • Write and research interesting stories for our website and newsletters.
  • Identify photos and graphics to complement stories.
  • Write copy and help with flyers for lectures and other events.
  • Learn how to post content using Drupal, our content management system.
  • Use and perfect your social media skills to help increase awareness among our key audiences.
  • Proofread stories for grammatical errors and OSU/Associated Press Style.
  • Adhere to OSU's brand, tone, voice and style as well as best practices.
  • Consult with our team to assess copy needs, audiences and objectives.
  • Participate in weekly creative team meetings as your schedule permits.
