About The Position

The Managing Director of the Brussels Office at ICI Global plays a pivotal role in executing the organization’s vision in Europe. The Managing Director is responsible for executing the organization’s vision in Europe and contributing significantly to its global mission. This includes leading initiatives, engaging with policymakers, managing the Brussels office staff, and fostering thought leadership. The Managing Director reports directly to ICI’s Chief Global Affairs Officer (CGAO) and is expected to have a strong track record of execution, effectively translating ideas into impactful outcomes.

Requirements

  • A graduate degree in a relevant field (economics, finance, law, or related disciplines).
  • At least 15 years of relevant professional experience.
  • A proven track record in financial policy, regulatory affairs, or related fields.
  • Ability to turn strategic vision into practical actions and drive change.
  • Proficiency in analyzing complex regulatory issues and proposing effective solutions.
  • Make data-driven assessments based on thorough analysis.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Focus on outcomes and drive continuous improvement.
  • Navigate complex challenges and adapt to changing regulatory landscapes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Fluency in English (speaking and writing) is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Translate ICI’s global strategy into actionable plans for the European market.
  • Serve as a key advisor to the CGAO on formulating ICI’s strategy in Europe and work closely with other members of the global leadership team.
  • Implement initiatives that align with ICI’s mission and enhance its presence in Europe.
  • Facilitate regular communication channels between the Brussels office and colleagues in other ICI offices.
  • Drive thought leadership by identifying emerging trends, regulatory developments, and industry best practices.
  • Develop a broad understanding of ICI’s goals beyond Europe, including at international organizations such as IOSCO and the Financial Stability Board.
  • Represent ICI in discussions with European regulators, policymakers, and industry stakeholders.
  • Advocate for policies that promote a vibrant and competitive investment fund industry.
  • Monitor European regulatory changes and assess their impact on ICI members.
  • Lead the European Regulatory and Policy Committee (ERPC) and other committees and working groups as needed.
  • Develop position papers, comment letters, blogs, and other materials that help to shape policy and regulation.
  • Manage the Brussels office and serves as chief administrative officer of the Brussels office.
  • Manage the ICI global staff in Brussels and engaging with various service providers and stakeholders needed to keep the office going, including the landlord, IT providers, governmental administrative authorities, and others.
  • Inspire teamwork, dedication, and a strong work ethic within the Brussels office team and lead by example.
  • Manage team members whose scope of work can extend beyond Europe and include, for example, IOSCO and the Financial Stability Board.
  • Foster cross-functional alignment with other ICI Global teams.
  • Integrate the team’s work closely with the rest of ICI.
  • Delegate work while providing training and mentorship to staff.
  • Understand work priorities and communicate plans and priorities to staff.
  • Understand team members’ needs and motivations—and assist their development.
  • Provide direct feedback to staff to encourage timely, open, and honest communication.
  • Cultivate relationships with key stakeholders, including member firms, government officials, industry associations, and other relevant bodies.
  • Participate in industry forums, conferences, and working groups to influence policy decisions.
  • Increase membership in ICI.
  • Work closely with other ICI teams (such as Research, Legal, and Strategic Communications) to ensure cross-functional alignment.
  • Integrate the work of the Brussels team into broader ICI initiatives.
  • Collaborate on joint projects and leverage collective expertise.
  • Contribute to research, white papers, and reports on relevant topics.
  • Engage in public speaking, panel discussions, and media interviews to share insights.
  • Position ICI as a thought leader in Europe.
